The Los Angeles Dodgers, like all other 30 MLB teams, are gearing up their roster for spring training exhibition games, which are set to start this weekend. On Thursday, the Dodgers brought back a familiar face to the organization.
According to multiple reports, the Dodgers are signing right-handed reliever Yency Almonte to a minor league contract, which will likely include a bid to spring camp, which is already underway for Los Angeles at Camelback Ranch. Almonte had very mixed results with the Dodgers over parts of two seasons, but is a good organizational depth addition.

Dodgers Bringing in Yency Almonte
Yency Almonte pitched with the Dodgers in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Over 33 appearances with the Dodgers in 2022, Almonte posted a 1.02 ERA over 35.1 innings.
However, 2023. featured a big regression in performance, as Almonte’s ERA jumped to 5.06 over 48 innings, which ultimately led to him being traded to the Cubs in a package that brought Los Angeles two touted prospects in Zyhir Hope and Jackson Ferris.
He broke into MLB with the Colorado Rockies, where he also saw mixed results. Almonte did not pitch in MLB in 2025, but pitched to a 3.45 ERA with the Chicago Cubs in 2024 over 17 appearances.

Injuries have been an issue for Yency Almonte in recent seasons, as they may have hindered his production while in a Dodgers uniform in 2023.
He will likely start the season in Triple-A, as the Dodgers already have a full cast of members in the bullpen, especially with the signing of Edwin Diaz and Tanner Scott returning to the fold healthy.

Other Dodgers Spring Training Notes
The Dodgers are ready to open up their spring training schedule on Saturday.
There isn’t a whole bunch of news coming out of the back-to-back World Series champions camp, but that’s expected, as the Dodgers have most of their roster and spots put together.
A few small notes include Freddie Freeman wanting to, preferably, stay in Los Angeles for the remainder of his career, which might require the Dodgers inking him to a one-year contract once his current deal expires.
Manager Dave Roberts also indicated that Mookie Betts may move down a slot in the order to the 3-hole, in a new look lineup, that one would assume has new addition Kyle Tucker hitting second, behind Shohei Ohtani.
Speaking of Ohtani, he’s also gained some buzz during his camp during his live pitching sessions.
