The Los Angeles Dodgers have received a lot of praise in recent years for making several big-time free agent signings that have led to back-to-back World Series titles. However, their aggression goes both ways, as some players Los Angeles has inked to lucrative deals just never worked out for the team. One of those players was Michael Conforto, who signed a one-year, $17 million deal with the Dodgers before the 2025 season, and it was a disastrous signing.

Well, according to multiple reports, Michael Conforto has signed with the Chicago Cubs. It is a minor league deal for Conforto, who will have to prove he can still hit, but the deal includes an invite to big league camp.

Michael Conforto to Sign with Cubs

Michael Conforto is set to turn 33 next month, and is a 10-year MLB veteran, but his season with the Dodgers wasn’t ideal for the lefty slugger.

Conforto was brought in on a one-year deal to solve the Dodgers’ left field issue last season, but Conforto became a big issue in the Dodgers’ lineup.

Over 138 games and 418 at-bats, Conforto hit just .199 with Los Angeles en route to a low 79 OPS+. Conforto was thought to bring some power over to LA in the $17 million deal, but he hit just 12 home runs and drove in 36 runs.

Overall, Dodgers fans would like to forget Conforto’s tenure with the team, as it seemed the coaching staff gave him extended opportunities because of the money they committed to him.

Now, with the Cubs on a minor league deal, there is likely much less pressure on Michael Conforto, but it’s important to note he doesn’t have a spot secured on the roster.

Can Conforto Turn His Career Around?

Michael Conforto has had a very successful MLB career to this point, but time might be running out for the former All-Star outfielder.

Most notably with the New York Mets, Conforto used to be a premier power slugger in MLB.

After missing all of 2022 with injury, Conforto proved he could still hit by slugging 35 home runs with the San Francisco Giants over two years. That power prowess landed him the $17 million deal with the Dodgers, but his lackluster ’25 campaign now leads to a minor league deal for Conforto, who is in the same position once again, attempting to prove his worth in Major League Baseball.
