New York Mets‘ Bo Bichette is getting the experience of the pressures that come with playing in the Big Apple through three games this 2026 MLB season. Bichette isn’t off to the start that he and the Mets had hope despite the team winning two of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Moreover, in the 4-3 loss to the Pirates on March 29 at Citi Field, Mets fans booed their free agent signing from this past winter. Bichette has a batting average of .071 with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored in three games for the Mets this season, per StatMuse.

After the loss to Pittsburgh, Bichette spoke with the media and shared his thoughts on hearing the boos from his fans three games into his Mets career.

“If anything, I thought it took too long,” Bichette said when reporters asked him about the boos (h/t SNY). “I get it. I thought my at-bats were terrible too.”

Moreover, Bichette was asked about his specific struggles at the plate during these three games against the Pirates.

“I think, sometimes in between, sometimes trying to do too much,” Bichette added (h/t SNY). “That’s pretty much what happens when you don’t feel good.”

Could Bo Bichette Be Pressing at the Plate?

Now that he’s on a new team, Bichette could be pressing to make a big impact with the Mets and the fan base to show that he was worth the three-year, $126 million contract with a $40 million signing bonus, which includes player opt-outs after the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

“I didn’t anticipate it, but I definitely felt that I wanted to have, like I said, a moment not only for my teammates but for the fans and everything,” Bichette said (h/t SNY). “So, that’s just something I have to manage.”

Mets’ Francisco Lindor Isn’t Worried About Bo Bichette

Despite his struggles to start his Mets career, Bichette’s teammates aren’t worried about the third baseman. After the game, Mets’ Francisco Lindor gave Bichette a vote of confidence now that the team needs to put this three-game series against the Pirates behind them.

“He’s one of the best hitters in the game,” Lindor told reporters (h/t SNY). “He’s going to have a lot of big moments for us. This is only normal, and we’re all on board with him. We know what kind of hitter he is. He’s going to execute. He’s going to come through more than he fails, so I can’t wait for him to get going.

“I felt like he had good at‑bats the entire time. It’s just that luck hasn’t been on his side. It’s one of those situations where the results are not there for him, but we see the process, we understand it and we see that he is on the right track.”

After three home games against the Pirates, the Mets will be heading out on the road for a seven-game road trip. New York’s first stop will be a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals beginning on March 30. Following that series, the Mets head to the Bay Area for a four-game set with the San Francisco Giants from April 2 to April 5.

It will be interesting to see whether being on the road can help Bichette feel more comfortable and get himself back on track.
