Lindor will start at shortstop and bat third in Friday's game against the Cubs. It's the first time since Aug. 5 of last season that Lindor has batted anywhere other than leadoff. Rookie Carson Benge has been elevated to the leadoff spot as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shakes up his lineup in hopes of ending an eight-game losing skid. Lindor is slashing only .184/.287/.289 in his first 19 contests this season.

Francisco Lindor: Breaking News
Finally belts first homer
Lindor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers. Lindor gave New York's offense a quick jolt with a leadoff homer against Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. However, that was the final run the Mets scored in what ended up being a pitchers' duel. Still, the long ball likely took some pressure off Lindor, who hadn't gone deep in any of his first 17 games to start the campaign. Though he still carries a poor .194/.301/.306 slash line on the season, Lindor has been perking up a bit of late, batting .280 (7-for-25) across his past six contests.
Picking up pace at plate
Lindor went 2-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the A's. The shortstop collected half the Mets' hits in a 1-0 loss, but he was also caught stealing for the first time this season. Lindor came out of the gates slowly but has hit safely in four straight games and five of the last six, going 7-for-27 (.259) over the latter stretch with a double and three runs scored. He's still looking for his first homer, and first RBI, of 2026.
