On Sunday, the New York Yankees picked up a series victory when they beat the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 8-3 in the Bronx.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. finished with two hits (including one home run) and two RBIs.
The Yankees will now have the day off on Monday.
Boone Makes Bold Chisholm Jr. Statement
After the game, manager Aaron Boone was asked about Chisholm Jr. (via SNY).
Reporter: “Yeah, he was really struggling earlier this month. Did you ever waver? I mean, you gave him a day off. Did you ever waver in terms of because you mentioned you have great depth. Obviously, Caballero, you’ve got good players, options. Did you ever waver in your confidence?”
Aaron Boone: “Not really. For us to be at our best, Jazz has to be an important part of it. So you’re going to pick your spots because we do have good players where you get them in there. We’ve gone through a stretch of it’s been such a weird year… It seems like we went two weeks and faced nine out of 11 lefties and now we haven’t seen a left-handed starter other than Fluharty opening the other day for two weeks. So it’s been an odd year in that way.”
Chisholm Jr. will be a free agent over the offseason.
He has had an up-and-down year.
Right now, the two-time MLB All-Star is batting .220 with 93 hits, 18 home runs, 51 RBIs, 60 runs and 34 stolen bases in 121 games.
There is no question that Chisholm Jr. is one of the top players in the American League when he is at his best.
That said, the 28-year-old has 144 strikeouts this season.
Looking At The Yankees On Monday
The Yankees (74-56) are only 3.0 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for first in the American League East.
They will host the Houston Astros on Tuesday.
