The New York Yankees have the best record in the American League right now, and are always an MLB organization with news and rumors swirling around them. With aspirations like winning the World Series, the Yankees could afford to add another leverage reliever.
A recent MLB mock trade proposed by SI.com’s Ryan Shean features the Yankees making a move for Chicago White Sox reliever Seranthony Dominguez:
“From the Yankees’ perspective, this is a win-now move for a team sitting 23–11 and in first place in the American League, where the focus shifts from prospect development to strengthening the MLB roster for a playoff run.”

It’s close to start thinking about which arms will be on the trade block this offseason, and it’s fair to believe that White Sox flamethrowing righty Seranthony Dominguez might be one of those names. Chicago signed him to a two-year, $20 million deal before the season, which is a good attempt at being aggressive in MLB free agency, but the Yankees could easily take over his contract.
Dominguez has been fairly effective this season, but the White Sox might actually want to offload him due to his underlying numbers (high walk rate, prone to giving up home runs). Over 13.2 innings this season, Seranthony Dominguez has an ERA of 3.95 with 17 strikeouts and eight saves.
New York doesn’t necessarily need a closer, as David Bednar has been very good since being traded last July, but it doesn’t hurt to have two (or three, with Camilo Doval) high-leverage righties. Or if the Yanks are to target a reliever, which is considered the team’s biggest need.

Should the Yankees Consider Trading for Seranthony Dominguez?

Per the trade proposal by Ryan Shea, the Yankees would be giving up prospects Rory Fox and Jace Avina.
Should the Yankees consider trading for Seranthony Dominguez? Given that the White Sox inked the 31-year-old from the DR a $20 million contract, they might want a little more in a potential deal.
The Yankees might consider trading a starter once either Gerrit Cole or Carlos Rodon returns, or New York could even think about trading a player like Anthony Volpe to complete this trade.
Seranthony Domínguez is an eight-year MLB veteran reliever and holds a lifetime 3.52 ERA over 319.2 total innings and 377 strikeouts. He also has logged 48 saves. He debuted with the Phillies in 2018 and has also pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles.
