Every person in this world is different, which means everyone fears different things… for the most part. One common phobia is Arachnophobia. Arachnophobia is defined as the extreme, irrational fear of spiders, characterized by intense anxiety, panic attacks, and avoidance behaviors upon seeing or thinking about them.

As MLB spring training rolls around and team reporters continue to stay on the ground to cover their respective teams, you see some interesting things take place. The most recent for the New York Yankees? Cam Schlittler potentially being an Arachnophobe.

According to Bryan Hoch and other Yankees‘ reports, starter Cam Schlittler needed security to remove a spider from his locker on Sunday afternoon.

Now, context is very important in this situation, because the type of spider is unknown, which is very important context. Was it a Black Widow? Tarantula? It likely wasn’t either of those, but with the Yankees being in Tampa, Florida, Spiders are prevalent in the muggy environment.

The report also doesn’t indicate if Schlittler was actually scared of the spider or not. There will have to be follow-up questions to further assess if he’s a true Arachnophobe. Even if he is, there’s no shame in that. Arachnophobia is one of the very common phobias in America, as spiders come off as unpleasant in most cases.

Cam Schlittler: The New ‘Spider-Man’?

Maybe Schlittler can turn this gag of a story into a new MO.

Cam Schlittler emerged for the Yankees during September and October last season and will be taking a bigger step this season as a dependable option for New York in the starting rotation.

In other Yankees spring training news from Sunday: Luis Gil got the start Sunday afternoon, but was on the proverbial struggle bus for the entire afternoon. Gil gave up three home runs and seven runs.

New York also assigned Marco Luciano and Braden Shewmake to minor league camp before Sunday’s game. MLB Opening Day is less than two weeks away, so final roster decisions are coming soon.

As for the Cam Schlittler- Spider story, it will be interesting to see how it develops, and if he’s even asked any follow-up questions, because I’m sure Yankees fans will be very curious to find out the truth.
