Yankees predicted to make surprising decision with Jasson Dominguez

The New York Yankees need to make a real decision with Jasson Dominguez before it’s too late. It’s already pretty much been announced that the young outfielder is going to start the year in Triple-A, but if that’s the case, why not just go ahead and trade him? The Yankees could get a real return for the young, promising outfielder if they weren’t stubborn about moving him.

A recent name that has gained some trade speculation is Cardinals‘ outfielder Lars Nootbaar. He could be a name that the Yankees aim to get in return for Dominguez, and adding ‘The Martian’ to St. Louis would help the Cardinals kickstart their rebuild.

Would the Yankees Make This Trade?

In this MLB mock trade idea, the New York Yankees finally offload Jasson Dominguez in a player-swap deal that lands versatile outfielder Lars Nootbaar. Nootbaar has consistently hit 12-14 home runs over the course of his four-year MLB career. He hit 13 home runs in 2025.

While Dominguez’s ceiling appears to be higher than that from a power standpoint, he’s yet to show that in his MLB at-bats, but he’s also stepped up to the plate 529 times since bouncing around on the big-leagye roster. In those 529 plate appearances, Dominguez has 16 home runs, 58 RBI, and an OPS+ of 103. This season could be his breakout year if he’s given enough at-bats.

This is why a team like the Cardinals may want to strike a deal for Dominguez so he can fully develop with their club.

The St. Louis Cardinals have gone full-blown fire sale mode this offseason, and Lars Nootbaar could be another name on the move. The only issue with trading for Nootbaar is the Yankees would run into the same situation with Jasson Dominguez, where the outfield may be too crowded to give Nootbaar ample at-bats.

Will the Yankees Trade Either Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones?

The Yankees have two young outfielders in Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones who have the potential to break out at any given moment, but with Trent Grisham, Cody Bellinger, and Aaron Jones patrolling the New York outfield, opportunities are limited.

It sucks for both Dominguez and Jones that they have to suffer from this. Jones was recently assigned to minors camp, which is a likely indication he’ll start the 2026 season in Triple-A with Dominguez.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently sent out a funny tweet that read something like “The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are set to have the best outfield in minor league history” after Jasson Dominguez hit a towering home run in a spring training game

You almost have to think Dominguez and Jones might want to be traded at this point just to get out of the pressures of New York and get a new opportunity elsewhere.
