The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off an epic comeback win against the St. Louis Cardinals to push their winning streak to nine games. But they lost infielder Bryson Stott, who exited the game in the eighth inning, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.
Philadelphia Phillies On SI’s Jeff Kerr later reported that Stott exited the game due to a right foot contusion. The 28-year-old fouled a pitch off his right foot in his sixth-inning at-bat against Cardinals left-hander Justin Bruihl. Stott flew out to center field one pitch later.
The Phillies were without Alec Bohm and Luis Arraez in this game, as both infielders are dealing with nagging injuries. Arraez left the previous contest due to hamstring cramping, a recurring issue for the 29-year-old, so he got the day off.
Stott started the game at second base and finished 0-for-3 at the plate.
Phillies Provide Encouraging Bryson Stott Injury Update
Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly told Phillies Nation’s Ty Daubert that X-rays came back negative on Bryson Stott’s right foot. Mattingly expects Stott to be in the lineup when they travel to Seattle to take on the Mariners at T-Mobile Park.
The Phillies dodged a bullet with one of their key lineup regulars. While Mattingly expects Stott to return to the lineup, there is still a long flight to the West Coast ahead of them.
All eyes will be on who will be in the Phillies’ starting lineup for the Mariners series opener. Alec Bohm should return as well, after Mattingly revealed the 30-year-old was unavailable in the series finale against the Cardinals.
Stott is having his best season with the Phillies in 2026, slashing .259/.337/.406 at the plate with nine home runs and 23 stolen bases. His 105 wRC+ and 3.5 fWAR are both on track to be career highs.
What the Bryson Stott Injury News Means for the Phillies
Stott has been the unsung hero of the Phillies infield this season. Originally in a platoon with Edmundo Sosa at second base, the 28-year-old has earned an everyday role.
Stott moved from second base to third base when the club acquired Luis Arraez at the deadline. He gives them potential coverage at shortstop in a pinch.
The addition of Arraez, plus the position changes for both Stott and Alec Bohm, have strengthened their infield defense. It came at the expense of moving Bryce Harper back to the outfield, but that’s a change the club was more than willing to accept.
With Stott, Bohm, and Arraez expected to return to the lineup, all is well with the Phillies lineup. They’ll carry a season-best nine-game winning streak into Seattle.
