Many things are falling in place for the Philadelphia Phillies as they maintain a solid lead in the race for first place in the NL East. Rob Thomson and his team will soon be in the heat of chasing the franchise’s third World Series title this fall.

Among the few obstacles that could prevent them from competing in a potential World Series are the injury concerns they may develop. Within the past few days, the Phillies got some bad news on two of their stars in shortstop Trea Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm

Rob Thomson Gives Update on Trea Turner and Alec Bohm

Turner had an issue with his hamstring in the Phillies‘ 5-4 loss on Sunday to the Miami Marlins. He was forced to leave in the seventh inning of the game, creating a huge cause of concern for his potential injury presence for the Phillies‘ postseason run.

As for Bohm, he has been experiencing some discomfort in his swings, and management doesn’t know when it originally happened. Like Turner, Phillies fans have a cause for concern for Bohm being hurt or out when the Phillies start postseason play.

The dual situation isn’t ideal for the Phillies, who are incredibly reliant on their two stars. Recently, Thomson addressed the media on the injuries along with the potential timeline of Turner and Bohm. He says there is some optimism for both players.

“We had the MRI, it’s a grade 1, and we expect him back by playoff time, so it would actually be better than we expected. With Bohm he’s been grinding with his left shoulder for a while. Fighting through it. It’s probably going to be 10 days. He could feel it every once in a while in his swing, and yesterday, he felt it on every swing, so I decided to shut the thing down. We expect him back in 10 days.”

Trea Turner and Alec Bohm need to be back for the Phillies

Philadelphia are in a position where they need to grind for the top of the division or a playoff spot. They have the potential to challenge the Milwaukee Brewers for the No. 1 seed of the NL when the postseason begins. Philadelphia is 5.5 games behind Milwaukee for the top spot.

The Phillies don’t have many games and series left until the postseason. With them having a comfortable lead in the NL East and the NL West division struggling for the top spot, the Phillies need to focus on getting healthy and efficient by the time the postseason starts. There is a very good chance the Phillies will get the No. 2 seed anyway.

Rushing Turner or Bohm could jeopardize their recovery just before the postseason. Turner has been the Phillies‘ most reliable hitter this season, batting .305 with 179 hits in 140 games. Bohm has also been steady, hitting .272 with 116 hits in 111 games. Their presence on the field and at the plate will be just as crucial as left fielder Kyle Schwarber, who has been a standout performer and a top MVP candidate.
