Before Tuesday’s game, the Mariners announced that they had signed Colt Emerson to a contract extension.
The Mariners wrote: “We’ve signed INF Colt Emerson to a contract extension through the 2033 season, with a club option for 2034.”
As part of the release, the team also announced that they had designated Ryan Loutos for assignment (h/t MLB Trade Rumors).
Ty Dane Gonzalez of Locked On Mariners wrote: “Emerson extension is official. He’s been added to the 40-man roster. Mariners DFA’d Ryan Loutos to make room.”
Loutos’ MLB career

Loutos has spent part of two seasons in the MLB playing for the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
He is coming off a year where he appeared in 12 games.
The 27-year-old never played in a regular season game for Seattle (he had been acquired over the offseason).
Daniel Kramer of MLB.com wrote (on November 6, 2025): “Mariners roster move: They’ve claimed right-hander Ryan Loutos off waivers from the Nationals and added him to their 40-man roster, which is now at 38 players.”

The Mariners come into Tuesday’s showdown with New York with a 3-2 record in their first five games of the 2026 season.
Following this series, they will visit Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels in California on April 3.
ESPN’s Buster Olney wrote: “Colt Emerson had six games in Class AAA at the end of last season, and has started at that level this year, opening 2026 with 5-for-14. Now that he’s reached an eight-year, $95 million deal with the Mariners, it figures he’ll be called up as soon as Seattle deems he’s ready. Soon.”
