The Mariners have been named a dark horse for Blue Jays free agent Bo Bichette.

The Toronto Blue Jays are a team on a mission right now. After losing Game 7 of the World Series in a heartbreaking fashion to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Blue Jays will be looking to win it all in 2026.

With the Blue Jays being in win-now mode, they have been aggressive this offseason. They have brought in a handful of new players this winter, with star pitcher Dylan Cease being the most notable. In addition to Cease, the Blue Jays have also added Kazuma Okamoto, Tyler Rodgers, Cody Ponce, and Chase Lee.

Yet, if the Blue Jays have it their way, they will still make more moves before the 2026 season is here. The Blue Jays have been linked to several notable free agents this offseason. One of them is star infielder Bo Bichette, as it is no secret that they would love to find a way to successfully bring him back to Toronto.

Bichette had a marvelous 2025 season with the Blue Jays. In 139 games for the American League East club, he had 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .311 batting average. With this, the two-time All-Star had a nice bounce-back year for the Blue Jays, so it makes sense that they want to keep him around.

However, with Bichette being one of baseball’s top free agents, he has naturally been generating interest from multiple other teams. The Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies are among the clubs that have been linked to the longtime Blue Jay this offseason.

Yet, a surprising new team is now being viewed as a potential landing spot to watch for Bichette.

Mariners Named Dark Horse for Blue Jays Free Agent Bo Bichette

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Joel Reuter named dark-horse landing spots for a handful of the league’s top remaining free agents. Bichette was naturally one of the players discussed, as he is easily one of the top stars who remains unsigned.

When it came to Bichette, Reuter named the Seattle Mariners as a dark-horse landing spot for Bichette this winter.

“If the Blue Jays land Kyle Tucker and the Dodgers prioritize outfield help, Bichette’s market gets tougher to nail down, and the Mariners’ current window of contention and clear need at second base make them a candidate for a late push,” Reuter wrote.

With the Mariners just missing out on making the World Series in 2025, it would make sense for them to pursue a top free agent like Bichette. If they successfully signed him, he would give the Mariners another legitimate star as they look to remain one of the top teams in the league.

Bichette would be a massive addition to the front half of the Mariners’ lineup, as he is an impactful hitter. Furthermore, his versatility would also make him a valuable addition to Seattle’s roster if they successfully signed him.

Bichette’s Market Should Only Heat Up From Here

With Alex Bregman signing with the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, interest in Bichette should only increase. He is now the top infielder on the free-agent market, and he would be a great fit on multiple other teams besides the Blue Jays.

With this, it is certainly not guaranteed that Bichette will end up returning to the Blue Jays. If the Blue Jays lose him to the Mariners or another team, it would undoubtedly be a tough blow for a Toronto club with high expectations.

It will be fascinating to see what happens with Bichette from here, but it is clear that he is a big free agent to watch.
