The Toronto Blue Jays have had an eventful offseason. They most notably signed star pitcher Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million contract to bolster their rotation. They have also brought in multiple other players like Kazuma Okamoto, Tyler Rodgers, Cody Ponce, and Chase Lee.
The Blue Jays also notably lost star infielder Bo Bichette this offseason, as he signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the New York Mets. Seranthony Dominguez’s time with the Blue Jays ended this offseason as well, as he signed with the Chicago White Sox. With this, the Blue Jays have seen multiple changes to their roster this winter.
Now, the Blue Jays are staying busy, as they have added to their pitching depth by bringing in a four-year veteran in a minor move.
Blue Jays Sign Connor Seabold to Minor League Contract
According to MLB.com’s transactions tracker, the Blue Jays have signed pitcher Connor Seabold to a minor league contract.
Seabold appeared in seven major league games during this past season, where he split time between the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves. In his seven relief appearances between the two teams, he recorded a 0-0 record, a 4.35 ERA, and 10 strikeouts.
Seabold had more of his success during the 2025 campaign with the Rays, however. In his three appearances with the American League East club, he had a 1.35 ERA. Yet, he then struggled with the Braves, as he recorded a 9.82 ERA in four games.
Seabold spent a good portion of the 2025 season at the Triple-A level. In 22 games split between the Durham Bulls and the Gwinnett Stripers, he had a 3-5 record, a 6.07 ERA, and 64 strikeouts. Overall, it was a tough year for the 30-year-old righty, but he will now be looking to bounce back in the Blue Jays’ system.
Seabold Gives Blue Jays A Depth Pitcher With MLB Experience
With the Blue Jays signing Seabold, they have added a depth pitcher who has a decent amount of major league experience. In 40 career MLB games over four seasons split between the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, Rays, and Braves, the Laguna Hills, California native has a 1-11 record, a 7.79 ERA, and 96 strikeouts.
Seabold’s most MLB usage was during the 2023 season with the Colorado Rockies. In 27 games that season with the Rockies, with 13 of them being starts, the 2017 Philadelphia Phillies third-round pick had a 1-7 record and a 7.52 ERA. This was after he appeared in his first six MLB games with the Red Sox from 2021 to 2022, where he had a 0-4 record, a 10.55 ERA, and 19 strikeouts.
Yet, most of Seabold’s experience has come in the minor leagues. In 102 career minor league games over seven seasons, the 6-foot-2 righty has posted a 27-22 record, a 4.16 ERA, and 456 strikeouts. With this, he will at least give the Blue Jays a veteran pitcher in their system, which is not a bad thing.
Overall, there is ultimately no harm in the Blue Jays taking a chance on a pitcher like Seabold on this minor league contract. He will be aiming to impress after earning this minor league deal, as it could open the door for him to eventually get a chance on Toronto’s roster.
