Toronto Blue Jays Urged to Focus on Fixing Concerning Issue

The Toronto Blue Jays have tried to be very aggressive during the MLB offseason thus far, but have unfortunately missed on their biggest swing.

Kyle Tucker was a clear priority for the Blue Jays. Toronto threw an extremely aggressive offer at him, but the superstar outfielder opted to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers instead.

After missing out on Tucker, the Blue Jays have been fairly silent. They have made some organizational additions, but nothing has gotten done that will improve their 2026 World Series chances. With the MLB offseason still in full effect, that could change.

There is still a chance that Toronto will make an aggressive move. However, the Blue Jays could also decide to head into the season with the roster they have in place.

Toronto Blue Jays Facing Potential Pitching Concern

While standing pat and heading into the season with the current major league roster is an option, Toronto does have a need in the bullpen.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer has named adding another relief pitcher as a top need for the Blue Jays to focus on throughout the rest of the offseason.

“The reigning AL champs are otherwise set, though they could use another reliever,” Rymer wrote. “Even after adding Tyler Rogers on a $36 million deal, their bullpen feels a man short.”

In addition to urging the team to consider another relief pitcher, Rymer also suggested that Toronto could consider trading for St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan. That kind of trade would be a solid “Plan B” option after missing out on Tucker and losing Bo Bichette to the New York Mets in free agency.

On paper, the Blue Jays still look the part of a legitimate contender in the American League. However, there are some concerns that will surround the team entering the 2026 season if no other sizable moves are made.

What Could the Blue Jays Look to Do?

Should the Blue Jays decide to make a move for another piece or two, there are some quality options available on both the free agency and trade markets.

David Robertson could be one potential veteran option for Toronto. Justin Wilson and Andrew Chafin could also make sense. Or, the Blue Jays could scour the trade market to see who other teams might be willing to part ways with.

As for a bat option after missing on Tucker, Donovan would make the most sense for Toronto. He’s coming off of a 2025 season with the Cardinals where he hit 10 home runs, drove in 50 RBI, and slashed .287/.353/.422.

None of those options would bring “star power” to the Blue Jays. The opportunities to add a franchise cornerstone are gone. However, there are still ways for the front office to improve the roster.

Expect to hear rumors surround Toronto as the offseason moves forward. The Blue Jays don’t have to make a move, but there are areas that could use some help on the roster.
