It has been a busy offseason for the Toronto Blue Jays as the club has been linked to several top free agents in ongoing MLB rumors. Toronto is looking to find the missing piece that allows the team to win a World Series after narrowly losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Could this missing piece currently have a Chicago address? CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson offered predictions for the top remaining MLB free agents and projects the Blue Jays will sign Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker.
“Tucker, the top talent in the class, is good at everything but not necessarily great at anything,” Anderson wrote in a December 30, 2025, story titled, “Predicting landing spots for the top 10 remaining MLB free agents: Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman and more.” “That puts him on a lower level than the superstars who have headlined recent offseasons, like Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, and Aaron Judge.
“Nonetheless, Tucker is an All-Star player who should find a new home over the coming weeks. He’s been tied to the Blue Jays a lot this winter, and they continue to seem like the cleanest fit since he can serve as both an upgrade over Nathan Lukes and insurance against Anthony Santander failing to rebound. The usual highrollers — Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers — have also been connected to him to various extents.”
Here’s what you need to know about the latest Blue Jays rumors.
MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Predicted to Lose Bo Bichette to Tigers
The Tucker buzz comes as Blue Jays star Bo Bichette remains unsigned and has been linked to other clubs. CBS Sports’ prediction for Bichette has the shortstop bolting Toronto for the Detroit Tigers.
Tucker is expected to have an expensive price tag, but there could be a disconnect between expectations and reality. The outfielder has been named an All-Star in four straight seasons and brings an impressive resume to wherever he lands.
Cubs Star Kyle Tucker Appears To Be Having Trouble Landing $400 Million Contract
Spotrac projects Tucker’s market value to be a 10-year, $401 million contract. This would be quite a raise from the $16.5 million salary Tucker had with the Cubs in 2025. New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported that Tucker may need to sign a deal for less than these gaudy projections, which could be good news for Toronto.
“The undisputed No. 1 free agent hasn’t stirred many rumors since he was spotted touring the beautiful spring home of the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla. Toronto, which signed the biggest deal so far (Dylan Cease, $210 million) and leads in spending this winter, should be attractive due to their excellent team and spring location near Tucker’s Tampa home,” Heyman detailed in a January 1, article titled, “Where things stand for coveted MLB free agents in slow market.”
“Though he might not reach the early $400M predictions after his typically excellent but ultimately unsatisfying platform season with the Cubs, the all-around star (he, Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and José Ramírez are the only players to post a 4 WAR the past five seasons) should still be worth $300M-plus based on past deals and comps.”
