The Toronto Blue Jays have been active this season and the team could still make another move or two.
Although Toronto is looking at bats, the Blue Jays could also look to add another reliever to further bolster the bullpen. Toronto signed Tyler Rogers to a three-year, $37 million deal this offseason to be a high-leverage reliever, but the team could use another reliever.
One area of need for the Blue Jays is a left-handed reliever, especially after Brendon Little’s struggles in the playoffs. With that, Blue Jays analyst Jackson Roberts of SI predicted Toronto will sign left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers, the twin brother of Tyler.
“Maybe this one is wishful thinking, but the Blue Jays could absolutely use one more left-handed middle reliever,” Roberts wrote. “And what better way to make Tyler Rogers more comfortable in the first year of his $37 million Blue Jays contract than to acquire his twin brother?
“Taylor Rogers is likely being undervalued in this free-agent class because his last contract was too expensive, and his second half with the Chicago Cubs was subpar. But this is a former All-Star with a 3.34 career ERA who still struck out more than a batter per inning last year.”
Toronto signing Rogers does make sense as the team needs another left-hander, especially if Little struggles again next year. Rogers would start the year as a middle reliever, but he could work his way to a high-leverage reliever with his twin brother.
Taylor was 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 57 games last season between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. He was an All-Star in 2021.
Blue Jays GM Not Ruling Out Another Move
Toronto introduced Kazuma Okamoto on Tuesday as he was the latest move amidst an active offseason.
Although the Blue Jays have been very active this offseason, the team may not be done. General manager Ross Atkins said that ownership is willing to spend more if need be.
“You have heard me say, probably too many times to count, that we will always be open to making our organization and team better, if there is a way to do that,” Atkins said on Tuesday. “At this point, we were answering the question back in early December and even in November, that we felt good about our team. That remains the case.
“We’ve made it better, so we do feel good about your team. The one thing I would add is that additions at this point would cut away from playing time from players we feel are very good Major League pieces. So we have to factor that in. But we’ve always had incredible support from ownership.”
Another move is likely bat, either Kyle Tucker or Bo Bichette, but it could also be more help in the bullpen.
Tyler Rogers Credits Toronto’s Reputation for Deal
The Blue Jays’ big bullpen addition was signing Tyler Rogers to bolster the backend of the bullpen.
After he was introduced to the media, Rogers said the team’s reputation for taking care of families helped push the deal over the edge.
“When the American League champs give you a phone call, you kind of perk up and get excited about that,” Rogers said. “This is a team that was really close to winning the World Series. That right there is a great start.
“The Blue Jays have a great reputation throughout the industry, even before they made this World Series run. They have a great reputation for how they treat their players, their facilities and even more so how they treat families.”
Toronto opens its 2026 MLB season on March 27 against the Athletics.
