The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday to win two of three games in the series.
Now, on Friday night, they’re in the Bronx to kick off a series against the New York Yankees. Ahead of the opener, the Blue Jays announced a string of notable roster moves.
Blue Jays Demote 28-Year-Old Pitcher
After selecting his contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, the Blue Jays have sent left-handed reliever Brendan Cellucci back to the minors.
Cellucci didn’t make an appearance during his 48 hours with the big league club, and the Blue Jays sent him down to make room for right-handed starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti, who the team reinstated from the 15-day IL.
Toronto also promoted infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider from Triple-A and placed infielder Josh Smith on the 10-day IL with left hamstring inflammation.

Cellucci’s MLB Career
While Cellucci got to experience an MLB clubhouse, he still hasn’t made his official MLB debut because the Blue Jays never gave him an opportunity over the last two days.
The Boston Red Sox drafted Cellucci in 2019 out of Tulane in the 12th round, and he remained in their farm system through 2025 before joining the Blue Jays organization over the last two seasons.
With Triple-A Buffalo this season, Cellucci has appeared in 40 games out of the bullpen and holds a 6-2 record with a 3.55 ERA across 45.2 innings. He’s also recorded 48 strikeouts while posting a 1.34 WHIP.
