Cleetus McFarland has stepped into the spotlight ahead of his NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series appearance at Rockingham Speedway, addressing criticism about his place in stock car racing. The automotive YouTuber, who built a large following online, recently secured a part-time opportunity with Richard Childress Racing for the 2026 season.
His entry has drawn attention from fans and drivers who question whether he has followed the usual path into the sport.
As the debate grew across social media, McFarland responded directly in a conversation with Bob Pockrass, which was later shared on social media, making it clear he is aware of the discussion and ready to face it on track.
Cleetus McFarland Responds to Criticism Ahead of Debut
McFarland did not avoid the topic when asked about outside opinions. He said he follows the conversation closely because of his background.
“Bob, I think you know at this point that I’m pretty in tune with what’s going on in the social media world. This is my job. My job is probably more similar to yours than to the drivers. I am a social media guy. That’s how I got in this position. So I see it a lot.”
He also pointed to a previous mistake earlier in his racing experience and how it affected him at the time.
“Closer to Daytona, when I had the big screw-up in the truck, I was feeling a little down on myself about that.”
But he said the continued discussion has had less impact over time.
“At this point, the record is so broken of people still talking about it, I don’t care as much.”
McFarland Stays Focused on Opportunity With Richard Childress Racing
McFarland addressed claims that he does not belong in the series by pointing to the opportunity before him.
“At the end of the day, all these guys can say whatever they want about me. But if Richard Childress called them and said, ‘Hey, you want to come drive our car?’ all of them would have taken that opportunity too.”
He made it clear that his focus remains on performance once he gets behind the wheel.
“And if NASCAR is letting me do it, I’m in. I’m here. And no one can save me but myself at this point. Once I get on that track on Saturday, it’s up to me.”
Debate Continues as Rockingham Weekend Approaches
The discussion around McFarland reflects a broader shift in how drivers enter the sport. His presence has drawn attention from both supporters and critics, especially as social media continues to play a larger role in motorsports.
McFarland acknowledged that reaction but remained firm in his approach.
“So they can complain as much as they’d like, but it’s happening. And they better buckle up.”
As race weekend approaches at Rockingham, the focus now moves to his on-track performance.
