The Boston Celtics travel to New York to take on the Knicks in tomorrow night’s inner-conference tilt.

Boston vs. New York has historically generated storylines, but this matchup feels different.

The Celtics, winners of the previous year’s title, were dispatched by the Knicks in last year’s Eastern Conference semifinals. It added a new layer to this all-time rivalry.

Of course, the biggest takeaway from last year’s playoff battle, minus New York rising victorious, was the devastating injury to Jayson Tatum. Tonight, Tatum returns to where his career flashed before him 11 months ago.

With Boston on the cusp of clinching the second seed in the East, New York, behind its boisterous crowd, hopes to play spoiler in nationally-televised game.

This should be a good one, especially if all key players are available to play.

Boston Celtics Rollout Player Status for Thursday’s Crucial Game

Yesterday against the Charlotte Hornets, the Celtics captured win No. 54 on the season. For a team that was projected to win no more than 40-something games entering the year, the 2025-26 campaign has been more than just a successful run.

Boston was without Tatum until only a little over a month ago. Since his return, the team has gone 13-2 and has gotten progressively healthier. Tatum has made strides, especially over the last five games, as he continues to mount some velocity entering the postseason.

The Celtics as a whole aim to be fully healthy entering Game 1 of the first round of the season. If Tatum continues to progress the way he has, the franchise will have achieved the literal best-case scenario heading into the spring tournament.

On the topic of big games, Boston certainly has one tonight, but it could be without multiple key players. That’s a bummer. The team lasted just a couple of games with a clean injury report, which it had previously waited all season for.

Here is the official injury report for Thursday’s showdown in New York:

Statement Game on Tap For Boston; Tatum Returns to His House of Horrors

A win at this juncture of the season is always a solid confidence booster with the playoffs looming, but both these teams have more to play for than just another win and some encouragement.

Boston aims to exact revenge for last season’s playoffs; New York wants to prove it is still that team that sent the Celtics packing early.

Expect Madison Square Garden to exhibit a playoff atmosphere the entire game. If the game gets tight and the home team starts hitting clutch buckets, watch out. The roof might fly off the place.

In other news, Tatum is back where he experienced a potentially career-altering moment. It was this very area where he incurred a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Tatum has already admitted he isn’t “thrilled” to play in New York after what happened last year, but getting the win and playing well in the process could shake off the nerves in future visits.

The Celtics aim to improve to 55-24, while the Knicks try to end Boston’s four-game winning streak and secure their own fourth straight victory.
