Latest Warriors News
Brandin Podziemski : Likely to remain a starter
Podziemski will likely remain in the starting lineup for the Warriors moving forward, head coach Steve Kerr said Thursday, Danny Emerman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Podziemski has made enough of an impression on Kerr that Buddy Hield may be forced to have a bench role for the Warriors for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old guard finished with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block, capping an impressive all-around performance in Thursday's win against the Rockets.
Gary Payton : Ruled out Thursday
Payton (right peroneal contusion) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Rockets, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com reports. After a 14-point performance in Wednesday's loss to the Mavericks, Payton will miss Thursday's game with a right peroneal contusion. The veteran guard's production on both ends of the floor will be missed against Houston, with Brandin Podziemski shouldering the load in the backcourt as a starter alongside Stephen Curry with Buddy Hield set to come off the bench.
Quinten Post : Sliding to second unit Thursday
Post will come off the bench in Thursday's game against the Rockets, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. Moses Moody will step into the starting five for Post against Houston. The big man had started in seven of the club's last eight outings, averaging 8.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 three-pointers across 16.3 minutes per contest. Post should compete with Kevon Looney for playing time behind Draymond Green at center Thursday.
Brandin Podziemski : Joining starting five
Podziemski is starting Thursday's game against the Rockets, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. Podziemski has performed admirably off the bench lately, earning him a chance to play with the starters in the second half of a back-to-back. He's shown flashes of excellence over the course of the season, most recently erupting for 29 points in a spot start Feb. 5 against the Jazz.
Moses Moody : Receives starting nod Thursday
Moody will start in Thursday's game against Houston, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. Quinten Post will retreat to the bench due to Moody re-entering the starting five against the Rockets. Over his last 10 outings (two starts), the Arkansas product has averaged 12.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 three-pointers and 1.5 assists across 25.2 minutes per contest.
Buddy Hield : Shifting to bench
Hield will come off the bench Thursday night against Houston, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. The Warriors are electing to shake up the starting five following a tough loss Wednesday against Dallas. Hield will come off the bench for the first time since Jan. 20, making room for Brandin Podziemski to draw the start at shooting guard.
Draymond Green : Busy on defense in loss
Green registered 13 points (5-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals in 32 minutes during Wednesday's 111-107 loss to Dallas. The veteran center has produced at least five combined blocks and steals in three straight games, making a big impact at the defensive end of the court since Jimmy Butler made his Golden State debut. Green has been able to suit up for all six contests so far in February while playing through minor calf and neck issues, averaging 8.2 points, 5.8 assists, 4.7 boards, 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks on the month in 32.0 minutes a game.
Jimmy Butler : Hits for 21 in Dallas
Butler totaled 21 points (8-17 FG, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists and one block in 35 minutes during Wednesday's 111-107 loss to the Mavericks. The 35-year-old forward has scored at least 20 points in three straight games since making his Warriors debut. Butler is looking like a good fit alongside Stephen Curry so far, averaging 22.0 points, 6.7 boards, 5.7 assists and 1.7 steals for his new club, and he seems to be focusing his scoring efforts inside the arc rather than trying to become a new Splash Brother -- Butler has attempted only three three-pointers in his first three games for Golden State and failing to drain any of them.
