The Golden State Warriors made it official by announcing that they have signed head coach Steve Kerr to a new, multi-year contract.
Kerr has spent the past 12 seasons as the head coach in Golden State, and now he’ll continue on in that role for a couple more years, at least.

There was some speculation that Kerr could walk away from the sideline over the offseason, and that’s something he certainly considered. However, he ultimately decided that he still wanted to coach, and the Warriors wanted him back (obviously).
In his first official statement since the deal was announced, Kerr expressed gratitude and excitement about the opportunity to continue his career with the Warriors.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching this team,” Kerr said. “This organization has meant so much to me for the last 12 years – from ownership to our players, our staff and our fans – and it’s an incredible privilege to be a part of something so special. I’m excited to keep competing with this group.”
In a statement of his own, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy lauded Kerr for the massive impact that he’s had on the franchise, both on and off the court.
“We’re thrilled that Steve’s tenure with the Warriors will continue,” Dunleavy said. “His impact on our franchise has been enormous, well beyond the championships and incredible on-court success. The character and leadership that he exudes each day helps set the tone for what we hope our franchise represents both now and in the future.”
One Question Answered, Many Still Remaining for Warriors

Now that they know who their coach is going to be, the Warriors can focus fully on improving the roster that Kerr will be coaching. Golden State has several key contributors headed for free agency, including Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. Additionally, Draymond Green has a player option that he can turn down in favor of free agency.
The Warriors landed the No. 11 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, and there have been rumors that they could look to go big-game hunting for the likes of LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard or Giannis Antetokounmpo.
All of that is to say that Kerr’s contract was just the first domino in what promises to be an extremely eventful offseason for Golden State.
