The Los Angeles Lakers took a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Houston Rockets in Game 3 — and even without Luka Dončić on the floor, his presence was impossible to ignore.

Luka Dončić Active From Bench Despite Injury Absence

Dončić, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, did not play in Friday night’s 112-108 overtime win in Houston. But the Lakers star stayed engaged throughout, frequently interacting with teammates — and opposing players — from the bench.

Video circulating from Game 3 showed Dončić chirping at Rockets players during key moments, adding another layer of intensity to an already physical playoff matchup.

Dončić Trolls Rockets Players During Key Moments

During one sequence, Dončić was seen reacting after Reed Sheppard missed a technical free throw, appearing to taunt the rookie from the sideline.

In another moment, he waved off a perimeter attempt by Alperen Şengün, signaling that the Lakers were not concerned about the shot. He later mimicked Şengün’s movements during a defensive possession involving Rui Hachimura, drawing attention from fans and media alike.

While Dončić’s antics never crossed into a stoppage or formal warning, they underscored how locked in he remains despite being unavailable.

Lakers Overcome Injuries Behind LeBron James

On the court, LeBron James carried the load for Los Angeles.

The 41-year-old finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 13 seconds left in regulation that forced overtime.

“Everyone has to do a little bit more because of how much we’re missing,” James said. “It’s a challenge for all of us and just trying to figure it out together.”

With both Dončić and Austin Reaves sidelined, the Lakers leaned heavily on their depth.

Marcus Smart added 21 points and 10 assists, while Hachimura chipped in 22 points. Smart also scored eight points in overtime, including a key 3-pointer that helped swing momentum.

Rockets Let Opportunity Slip Late

Houston had chances to close out the game, building a six-point lead with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

But late turnovers and execution breakdowns proved costly.

“It’s obviously a weakness of ours to close out and finish,” Rockets coach Ime Udoka said. “The amount of mistakes or the type of mistakes are egregious and you can’t have those.”

Şengün led Houston with 33 points and 16 rebounds, while Amen Thompson added 26 points and 11 boards.

Luka Dončić Return Timeline Still Unclear

Despite his visible involvement on the bench, Dončić is not expected to return during the first-round series.

Lakers coach JJ Redick previously said Dončić is preparing to begin his return-to-play progression but does not yet have a firm timeline.

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, a potential return is more likely in the second round — possibly against the Oklahoma City Thunder — should Los Angeles advance.

Lakers One Win Away From Sweep

With a 3-0 lead, the Lakers can close out the series in Game 4 on Sunday in Houston.

Dončić may not be on the court yet — but as Game 3 showed, he’s already part of the battle.
