Klay Thompson has been regarded as one of the best shooting guards in this generation. He has won four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, on top of putting up remarkable individual performances throughout his NBA career.

But when a fan compared him to Ray Allen, another all-time great shooting guard, Thompson refused and clapped back.

A fan compared Thompson to Allen when the fan noted that the latter faced the opposing squad’s best defenders, compared to Thompson, who has been the second-best player behind Steph Curry for most of his time with the Warriors.

“You do realize I was the 2nd leading scorer on two championship teams without KD? You want me to go to a bad team and put up empty stats, that’s easy buddy,” he said in an Instagram comment.

Thompson’s 13-season run with the Warriors cemented him as one of the greatest shooters and core pillars of an NBA dynasty. He won four championships, earned five All-Star nods, and formed the historic “Splash Brothers” backcourt duo alongside Curry.

Meanwhile, Ray Allen is a 10-time NBA All-Star, two-time NBA champion, and Hall of Fame shooting guard widely remembered as one of the most lethal shooters in basketball history. His first championship came with the Boston Celtics before winning again with the Miami Heat, Thompson’s current team.

Before that, Allen was the main man for the Seattle SuperSonics in the early 2000s.

Another fan chimed in, saying that a team would not win a championship with Thompson as the main player.

He then clapped back, bringing up the time when he led the Warriors in points scored in the 2016 NBA playoffs, where they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals after blowing a 3-1 lead.

“Holy sh**, I led the 2016 playoffs in points scored you casuals,” he said.

Over his seasons with the Warriors, he set legendary NBA records, such as 37 points in a single quarter and 14 three-pointers in a game, to be one of the best players in franchise history.

Klay Thompson Is Not Returning To The Golden State Warriors Soon

The Dallas Mavericks officially announced a contract buyout agreement with Klay Thompson. The move leaves the final season of his three-year, $50 million contract, where he was scheduled to earn $17.5 million for the 2026–27 season.

However, once he clears waivers, Thompson is heavily expected to sign with the Miami Heat, ending speculations of him returning to the Warriors next season.

The 36-year-old guard spent two seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 12.9 points while shooting 38.7% from 3-point range across 141 games.

Thompson gets his desired opportunity to join a high-level Eastern Conference contender, but he closed the door on returning to the Warriors, a squad that had missed out on numerous big names this offseason, such as Jaylen Brown and LeBron James

Before his buyout, Thompson stated on a public stream broadcast that “it’d be nice to end it in Golden State,” fueling heavy speculation about a potential homecoming.

Following his official buyout from the Dallas Mavericks, NBA rules have locked him out of that option for the immediate future.

Because the Warriors operate above the league’s luxury tax apron limits, NBA salary cap rules forbid them from signing a player who was waived or bought out from a contract worth more than the mid-level exception. Thompson’s voided contract was worth $17.5 million.

For now, at least in the foreseeable future, a potential reunion with the Warriors remains unlikely for Thompson.
