Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is leaving ESPN.

During a press conference following the dismissal of Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, Bob Myers provided some insight into what his role with the organization is going to look like moving forward.

Myers, who currently serves as the president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment will the search for Morey’s replacement, but he won’t be completely out of the picture once that replacement is identified.

The way Myers explains it, it sounds like the new hire will handle day-to-day basketball responsibilities while he will maintain a kind of overseer, big picture type of role.

“They will have a lot of authority here, which they should,” Myers said of Morey’s replacement. “What they’re going to get, and our fans are going to get is them plus me. I won’t be on the day-to-day level, but on the high-level decision-making, which is being here at the draft, being here leading up to the trade deadline, being available for free agency discussions, free agency meetings, things like that. I’m going to be involved at that level.”

Myers said that he plans to remain in constant communication with whoever the Sixers hire to replace Morey.

“I’ll be communicating with that person daily, if not five out of seven days a week,” Myers said.

76ers Hope to Have Daryl Morey’s Replacement in Place Prior to 2026 NBA Draft

When it comes to a potential timeline for identifying a replacement for Morey, Myers hopes to have an individual in place prior to the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft at the end of June and the start of free agency in July. However, he emphasized that speed isn’t the priority, finding the right person for the job is.

“But the goal would be to have someone in place for the draft to get acclimated with the new group. By the way, the group is working now, and whoever we hire, not sure who that will be, will likely possibly already be evaluating the draft, where they’re coming from,” Myers said.

“So, that’s a benefit in some ways, but, yeah, I’d like to, and I hope to, but it’ll be as much time is required to get the best person because, again, sure, have someone by the draft, but the goal will be to have someone that’s the right person for a long amount of time after that.”

The NBA Draft is set for June 23rd this year, so that gives that Sixers roughly five weeks to find their guy if they hope to have him involved in draft decisions. Let’s see how quickly the search goes.
