The Baltimore Ravens have completely shaken up the NFL over the past 24 hours. In the blink of an eye, the team backed out of their blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby, only to turn around and sign Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract in free agency.
The move has caught the entire league off guard, and teams everywhere are reeling from the Ravens’ sudden change of heart. Baltimore, however, is intent on moving forward, and with the Crosby/Hendrickson fiasco in the rearview mirror, the front office has made another important move that will catch fans’ attention.
Ravens Re-Sign Chidobe Awuzie to 1-Year, $5 Million Contract
Ahead of the start of free agency, the Ravens pulled off a big trade with the Raiders for Crosby, as they sent their first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 drafts the other way. All seemed well, only for Baltimore to reverse course at the last second after determining that Crosby had failed his physical.
Just hours later on Wednesday morning, reports emerged indicating that the team had moved on from Crosby by signing Hendrickson. The entire situation has been stunning to say the least, as everyone has been left searching for answers. Did the Ravens really find some worrisome information in Crosby’s medicals, or did they simply get cold feet and decide they wanted Hendrickson instead?
There’s no sense crying over spilled milk, especially considering how this is one of the most hectic times of the year in the NFL. Baltimore’s front office has certainly indicated it feels that way, because shortly after signing Hendrickson, the team moved to re-sign one of its own players, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, to a one-year, $5 million contract.
“The Ravens have agreed to a one-year, $5 deal with veteran CB Chidobe Awuzie, sources say. Awuzie played well for the Ravens last year and now he’s back,” Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported in a post on X.

Awuzie worked as a rotational cornerback for Baltimore in 2025, racking up 43 tackles and seven pass deflections in 14 games of action. Previously a full-time starter with the Cincinnati Bengals, Awuzie isn’t necessarily a star cornerback, but he has familiarity with the Ravens’ defensive scheme, as well as a wealth of experience playing at several different spots in the secondary.
This is a nice piece of business by Baltimore, but it feels like it could soon feel the repercussions of its decision with Crosby in the near future. It’s clear that teams aren’t happy with how the Ravens handled the situation, and it feels like we have not heard the last about this situation. The team doesn’t seem to mind, though, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them continue making moves now that they have clarity on their situation with Crosby and Hendrickson.
