The Buffalo Bills could be bowing out of the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes.
The NFL world was turned upside down when the Baltimore Ravens backed out of a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, apparently changing course after getting the results of Crosby’s physical. That left Crosby in limbo, with the Raiders reportedly still willing to listen to trade offers but preparing to move forward with him on the roster.
Bills Won’t Make Another Maxx Crosby Offer
Though the Bills were once linked to Crosby, an insider shared that they could be moving onto other targets after losing the cap space they would have needed for the Raiders star.
NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe reported on Wednesday that the Bills will not make a second attempt to land Crosby after his trade to the Ravens blew up on Tuesday.
“The cap situation may be too difficult to make it work… what they may have had a few weeks ago is not what they currently have,” Wolfe said, via SI.com’s Alex Brasky.
The Bills have already made some significant moves, including center Connor McGovern’s four-year contract. McGovern played a big role on the team’s offensive line, which paved the way for running back James Cook to lead the league in rushing.
McGovern said quarterback Josh Allen took a hands-on role in recruiting him back to the team.
“[Allen’s] always checking up . . . it was last week, he called just to check in and just make sure I was going well before free agency, trying to give his two cents on everything and then just got the ball rolling from there,” McGovern said, via the team’s official website. “He was talking to both sides.”
Wolfe cited McGovern’s new contract as one of the moves the Bills made after the Raiders turned down their initial bid for Crosby, which ate up the cap space the Bills would have needed to fit Crosby onto the roster.
Raiders Could Plan to Keep Maxx Crosby
Even if they maintained the proper cap space, the Bills could have still found difficulty in convincing the Raiders to make a second attempt at trading him. SI.com insider Albert Breer reported that Crosby returned to the team facility early on Wednesday morning to continue rehab, and the team is operating on the assumption that he’ll be playing for them in 2026.
While the Raiders could continue to listen to trade offers, they don’t plan to lower the asking price, Breer added.
“All this is difficult for everyone,” Breer wrote in a post on X. “The Raiders will work through different scenarios—some teams called last night, but Vegas isn’t going to trade Crosby on a discount. And keeping him with a revamped crew around him isn’t the worst idea in the world.”
The Bills missed out on Crosby the first time because the Raiders reportedly wanted a higher first-round draft pick than they could offer, so the news that Las Vegas won’t entertain a discount would seem to keep them out of the running.
