The Baltimore Ravens have made a power move when it comes to their new offensive coordinator under first-year head coach Jesse Minter, pulling 29-year-old Chicago Bears offensive coordinator away to fill the same role with the Ravens and 29-year-old, 2-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Doyle’s new role comes with some big responsibilities under Minter, a former Ravens assistant who was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.

“ESPN sources: the Baltimore Ravens are hiring Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle as their offensive coordinator,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account on Friday. “Doyle can leave because, in Baltimore, he will have play-calling responsibility. But new Ravens HC Jesse Minter now has someone to run Baltimore’s offense.”

The Ravens fired longtime head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons and after the Ravens entered 2025 as Super Bowl contenders but missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record. Harbaugh’s dismissal came with one of the central issues being his refusal to fire offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who was eventually hired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Harbaugh was hired as head coach of the New York Giants.

Bears Grabbed Headlines With NFC North Title

Doyle and the Bears were one of the NFL’s top stories in 2025 as they won the NFC North Division under first year head coach and advanced to the NFC Divisional Round, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in overtime.

Taking the job with the Ravens comes as a bit of a surprise because Doyle had reportedly turned down an opportunity to take the same job with the Eagles.

“Bears OC Declan Doyle has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator vacancy, per sources,” The Athletic’s Diana Russini wrote on X on Monday. “Doyle opts to remain in Chicago, working with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.”

Doyle Wowed Ravens With In-Person Interview

Doyle’s hiring was announced the same day as his in-person interview, where he seemed to wow Minter and general manager Eric DeCosta.

“Doyle was in the building today for his interview and the Ravens got it done,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on X. “Was very impressive in interviews with Philly and Baltimore.”

The Bears’ success has led to their coaching staff and front office being largely poached by other teams.

“Declan Doyle becomes the third member of the Bears organization hired to a larger role this offseason: Assistant GM Ian Cunningham is now the Falcons GM RB coach Eric Bienemy returned to the Chiefs as their OC Doyle takes on play-calling duties as the Ravens OC,” ESPN’s Field Yates wrote on X.

Doyle’s relatively young age seemed to wow fans — especially considering how it compares to some of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

“Doyle is nearly six months younger than Patrick Mahomes,” Sports Illustrated’s Zak Gilbert wrote on X. “And, two months before Doyle’s first birthday in 1997, Andy Reid earned his first Super Bowl ring as Green Bay’s TE coach.”

In a relatively short time, Doyle has had the opportunity to work with some of the NFL’s great offensive minds. That includes 5 seasons as an assistant coach to head coach Sean Payton on the New Orleans Saints then on the Denver Broncos, and one year with Johnson in Chicago.
