Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen may have been much more hurt than he let on during the final weeks of the season.
Allen suffered a foot injury in the team’s December win over the Cleveland Browns, then played hurt for the remainder of the season and the playoffs. Allen was seen in a soft boot and crutches after the team’s season ended with a loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs, raising some concern about the severity of his injury.
New head coach Joe Brady spoke out about Allen’s recovery process, sharing a stark admission about just how hurt he was over the final games of the season.
Josh Allen Could ‘Barely Walk’
Allen showed some signs of the injury during the final stretch of the season, when the Bills were in a desperate attempt to catch the New England Patriots for the division lead.
Allen ended up taking a break in the final week, playing just one snap in the season finale against the New York Jets to maintain his streak of consecutive starts before heading to the bench, but was still hurt in the playoffs.
Brady revealed this week that Allen could “barely walk” during his final games.
“He’s good to go,” Brady told NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero. “The thing about Josh Allen, he got surgery after the season, but he’s playing as if you think there’s nothing wrong with him. The guy could barely walk, and then he’s playing games and it’s not impacting [his play]. He’s built different. And let’s hope it continues that way, but he’ll be good to go in the offseason.”
Josh Allen Excited About Team’s Progress
Brady added that he’s been in contact with Allen, who is excited about the direction of the team. The Bills have added
“I talk with him regularly,” Brady said. He’s just excited to get going with guys like DJ Moore, kind of figure out what it’s going to look like, just this new kind of era.”
The Bills have made some other big changes, including the release of veteran receiver Curtis Samuel after two injury-stricken seasons in Buffalo. The Bills also face a decision on the future of third-year receiver Keon Coleman, who struggled with inconsistent play and disciplinary issues last season.
Some analysts believe the Bills have more help on the way. The Bills have been named top contenders to land Washington receiver Denzel Bostin in the upcoming NFL draft. He earned good marks from ESPN’s Aaron Schatz and was ranked as the No. 4 receiving prospect in this year’s draft class.
“Boston is coming off two similar seasons with the Huskies: 834 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024, and then 881 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2025,” Schatz wrote. “That’s more impressive than you might think because Washington significantly dropped how often it passed the ball from 2024 to 2025 once players such as Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk moved onto the NFL.
“Boston is very big at 6-4 and 212 pounds, and scouting reports generally praise him for his toughness and ball skills more than his speed and ability.”
