After firing Sean McDermott, the Buffalo Bills will immediately begin a search for a new head coach. It seems they could have their eyes set on their former offensive coordinator.
Former Giants head coach Brian Daboll was fired from his first head coaching post in the middle of his fourth year. He’s fielded interviews for the Philadelphia Eagles’ and Los Angeles Chargers‘ offensive coordinator positions and the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching vacancy.
Now there’s a chance he could return to Buffalo. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Daboll is already being connected to the Bills.
Daboll was the Bills’ offensive coordinator for four seasons — 2018 to 2021 — and turned the offense into one of the league’s best. The Bills ranked 30th in total yards and points during the 2018 season. They ranked 5th and 3rd, respectively, during his final season in Buffalo.
His success corresponds with Allen’s rise to becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The Wyoming product threw for over 4,400 yards and 36 touchdowns in his final two seasons under Daboll. He was also the runner-up in the MVP race during the 2020 season.
Brian Daboll’s Time With the New York Giants

GettyFormer New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has fielded multiple interview requests for both head coaching and offensive coordinator opportunities.
Daboll battled to establish offensive consistency during his Giants tenure. He deployed nine different quarterbacks before drafting quarterback Jaxson Dart during the 2025 NFL Draft.
Before Dart took over, Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, Tommy DeVito, Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Davis Webb, and Drew Lock were all used under center. The Giants moved on from Daniel Jones, the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, in the middle of the 2024 season after he compiled a 2-8 record and threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
A revitalized Jones played for the Indianapolis Colts this season. He threw for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns in 13 games before tearing his right Achilles tendon.
Daboll produced a 20-40 record in 60 games, producing one winning season and one playoff appearance. He earned a 31-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. Daboll went 9-33 over the next three seasons. His offense never ranked higher than 13th in yards or points during that time.

I have full faith in and witnessed Brandon’s outstanding leadership style and have confidence in his abilities to lead our organization.”
According to the statement, Beane will lead the search for the Bills’ new head coach. He’ll work in tandem with Pegula and Pete Guelli, who will now serve as the President of Business Operations.
Beane took over as the Buffalo Bills’ General Manager in 2017. He played a key role in drafting Allen in 2018. He has helped the franchise produce a 98-50 record over the past nine years, with eight playoff appearances.
