The Buffalo Bills have been very aggressive so far during the 2026 NFL offseason. They have made big moves and also have attempted to make other big moves, as can be seen from their discussions for Maxx Crosby.
As for what the Bills have accomplished this offseason, the headline move was acquiring wide receiver D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears. He will represent a potential No. 1 option for superstar quarterback Josh Allen. Buffalo also made a defensive splash with the signing of pass rusher Bradley Chubb.
Outside of those two moves, the Bills have added other pieces. Among those pieces are safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, safety Geno Stone, punter Mitch Wishnowsky, quarterback Kyle Allen, and cornerback Dee Alford.
With that being said, Buffalo still has time to make more moves. Fans have wondered about the future of wide receiver Brandin Cooks, although it seems like the team is going to move on from him.
Should the Bills not re-sign Cooks, a suggestion has been made that he could join forces with a hated AFC East division rival.
Buffalo Bills Could Lose Brandin Cooks to the New York Jets
Patrick McAvoy of On SI has named Cooks a “bargain free agent” that the Jets could sign following the Justin Fields trade.
“New York has done a good job of adding veterans to this group. Cooks would fit that description,” McAvoy wrote.
“He’s 32 years old and is a 12-year veteran with six 1,000-yard-plus seasons under his belt. Spotrac currently is projecting his market value at just over $2.9 million across one season.”
Cooks came to Buffalo late in the 2025 NFL season. He ended up playing in five games for the Bills, catching five passes for 114 yards. It wasn’t a huge role, but his ability down the field showed up on a couple of big plays from Allen.
At the end of the day, watching Cooks head to New York wouldn’t be too painful for Buffalo. That is, unless he revitalizes his career and becomes a key part of the Jets’ offense.
What Else Do the Bills Need to Do in NFL Free Agency?
Truthfully, Brandon Beane and the Bills’ front office has accomplished much of what it needed to do this offseason. There are a couple of positions that could use a bit more help.
Adding another wide receiver for Allen would be a wise investment. They don’t need a star, but they could use a legitimate No. 3 type of player.
Buffalo could consider adding more depth on the defensive side of the football as well.
Acquiring another pass rusher could make a lot of sense. Chubb has an injury history and the Bills should have some kind of an insurance plan if an injury occurs. Another cornerback wouldn’t be bad either.
Regardless of what the rest of the offseason has in store, Buffalo fans have a lot to be excited about. The Bills should once again enter the season as a top-tier Super Bowl contender in the AFC.
