Buffalo Legend Patrick Kane Campaigning Hard For Next Bills Head Coach

The Buffalo Bills are (most likely) the last team to join the NFL’s head coaching search after firing long-time decision maker Sean McDermott on Monday.

There are still several high-profile candidates remaining, but of the four hired, one thing sticks out: they all have previous head coaching experience.

John Harbaugh, Kevin Stefanski, and Robert Saleh all coached NFL teams with varying amounts of success, while Jeff Hafley got his head coaching experience in college.

Mike McDaniel just accepted a job as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.

This profile fits only one of the current three favorite coaches to land the best opening in the NFL, and he has the support of Buffalo legend Patrick Kane.

“Let’s go bring him home!” Kane wrote in an X post replying to an Adam Schefter report that Daboll would be interviewing for the job.

Kane Says He Is Friends With Brian Daboll

The Kaner was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. Now nearly 18 years removed from the city, Kane still does his best to stay up to date with the happenings in Western N.Y.

He was asked about his support of Daboll after Wednesday morning’s skate around.

“Try to act like I know what I’m talking about,” said Kane following the Detroit Red Wings’ morning skate. “Daboll, he’s a good friend. He kind of grew up in the Buffalo area and went to school at Saint Francis, which is where some of my buddies went to school.”

The announcement that Kane and Daboll were friends came as a surprise to this humble writer, considering the 14-year age gap between the 50-year-old football coach and the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer.

But hey, that’s Buffalo for you.

“Just kinda crossed paths a little bit. So, ever since then, just kind of stay in touch,” Kane said.

“I actually talked to him on the phone the other day about maybe becoming the next Bills head coach — and then saw he’s getting an interview. So, I thought I’d throw that out there. But didn’t really know what type of traction it would get. So, we’ll see.”

Kane Speaks On Controversial Interception vs. Broncos

NFL officials seem to hardly grasp what constitutes a catch in today’s NFL, so it is unlikely the NHL center would either. However, one reporter asked him for his two cents on the play that ended the Bills’ season in Denver.

“It’s tough, right? I mean, I don’t really know the rules or anything, but you hear one thing from one person, it makes you a little bit more angry with what’s going on in the game, whether it’s a catch, interception, pass interference, all that stuff,” Kane said.

“I’m not gonna stand here and act like I’m Bills Mafia jumping through tables or anything like that. But it’s always nice to see the team do well, the city do well.”
