The Bills secured a crucial 27-24 victory against the Jaguars on Sunday, advancing Buffalo to the divisional round.
Buffalo undoubtedly wouldn’t have clinched the victory without the stellar performance of its quarterback, Josh Allen. He racked up 273 passing yards and threw one touchdown, while also tacking on 33 rushing yards and two more scores with his legs.
The AFC playoffs will be missing standout quarterbacks Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Patrick Mahomes, as their teams did not qualify. Over the past five seasons, these three quarterbacks have consistently been the top performers in the AFC, right alongside Allen.
Robert Griffin III Defends Josh Allen
Several media personalities have criticized Allen, suggesting that if he fails to reach the Super Bowl this season, it could damage his legacy. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III defended Allen following the Bills’ recent victory.
Griffin took to his X account on Sunday to blast the doubters, stating.
“Josh Allen’s legacy was never on the line during these playoffs despite Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow not being in the playoffs,” Griffin wrote. “But 100% anyone out there who said that it was doesn’t know ball. Glad the Buffalo Bills shut up those clowns.”
Griffin boasts a wealth of experience, having played as an NFL quarterback for seven seasons. Notably, he was the recipient of the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 2011 while at Baylor.
Given that Griffin has a wealth of experience playing quarterback, he understands that Allen’s legacy won’t take a hit if the Bills fall short of reaching the Super Bowl this season.
Even though Mahomes, Burrow and Jackson missed the playoffs, football remains, at its heart, a team game. Allen has had several outstanding postseason performances where Buffalo came up short, and it nearly happened again against the Jaguars.
Bills are Still Waiting for Their Next Opponent
The Bills nearly lost to Jacksonville despite Allen playing exceptionally well. There were numerous opportunities for the Jaguars to take the lead. At the end of the fourth quarter, Jacksonville was trailing by three points with under a minute left in the game. If the Jaguars had managed to pull off a miraculous touchdown to win it as time expired, that loss wouldn’t have rested on Allen’s shoulders.
Despite Trevor Lawrence’s efforts, he threw an interception during the final drive of the game, ultimately helping the Bills secure the victory.
The Bills are currently waiting to find out who they will face next. As of Sunday night, Buffalo remains the only team to have advanced in the AFC playoffs. The Broncos are holding onto the No. 1 seed and may host the Bills in Denver this upcoming weekend, depending on whether the Chargers can defeat the Patriots on “Sunday Night Football”. If Los Angeles pulls off the win against New England, the Chargers will head to Denver, while the Bills will likely travel to either Houston or Pittsburgh to take on the Texans or Steelers, depending on the outcome of their “Monday Night Football” game.
