The Buffalo Bills have become a roster notoriously propped up by veteran talent. Defensively, starters like Joey Bosa, Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White, and Shaq Thompson make up what is one of the league’s oldest defenses.
Another player who was contributing meaningful snaps in the trenches, Jordan Phillips, was on the wrong end of some brutal news before the Bills’ Super Bowl push.
“Phillips suffered a foot injury against the Jets in Week 18 and will miss the rest of the postseason,” a Buffalo Bills press release read.
Phillips was placed on the injured reserve on Wednesday and will have his 11th NFL season ended.
He suffered an ankle injury against the New England Patriots in Week 15 that caused him to miss the subsequent two weeks. But he was back in action and played 37.5% of the snaps in the final regular-season game of the year.
Before getting hurt, Phillips was quietly playing 20 snaps a game after being signed in the last week of September.
He is the fifth Bills defensive lineman placed on IR this season.
Dane Jackson Signed
In order to fill Phillips’ roster spot, the Bills have signed cornerback Dane Jackson in a corresponding roster move.
The move comes after rookie first-round draft pick Maxwell Hairston was ruled out for this Sunday’s Wildcard playoff game against the No. 3 seed Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jackson has floated on and off of the Bills’ practice squad this season.
The sixth-year NFL vet was once a full-time starter for the Bills but has taken on a much smaller role at age 29.
Jackson has only played three snaps on defense for Buffalo this season, but he will provide an extra body as a boundary corner should anybody go down on Sunday.
