The Buffalo Bills got all they could handle on the road in Cleveland on Sunday, but they managed to pull out a 23-20 victory to secure a playoff berth and keep pace with the Patriots in the AFC East. The win pushed the Bills to 11-4 on the season and they sit just a game behind New England in the division race.
But the win wasn’t without its tensions. Just before halftime, Bills quarterback and reigning league MVP Josh Allen left the field and headed into the locker room with a foot injury. He received x-rays and was cleared to return for the second half, not even missing a single snap.
Still, Bills HC Sean McDermott said on Monday that Allen is “day-to-day” and will be monitored throughout the week. With the Eagles coming to down this weekend for a massive game for both teams, Buffalo needs Allen to be ready to go.

“Don’t know yet,” McDermott said on Monday in his press conference, on if Allen’s injury would limit him in practice. “There’s a chance it does, we’ll see. We’re going to practice a little bit tomorrow, based on availability. We’ve got a number of guys that are not going to be able to practice. We’ll see how Josh shows up tomorrow and how he’s feeling.”
“Not that I’m aware of,” McDermott said on if Allen needed to undergo further testing.
“No. Just sore,” McDermott replied, in answer to a question on if Allen had any swelling or setbacks in his foot.
“As far as I’m aware, yes,” said McDermott, on if Allen is expected to play against the Eagles.
“Yeah, we’ll look into that part, in terms of adding another quarterback,” McDermott said after the Chiefs signed QB Shane Buchele to their active roster from the Bills practice squad. “I think more than anything, I’m happy for Shane. He and his family, they’ve been with us and done a phenomenal job, and I have a ton of respect and love and admiration for Shane.”
Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady on Josh Allen’s Resilience
“Yeah, I think as you guys have learned with Josh Allen, whenever he’s ready to go he’s going to run back out onto that football field and go,” said Bills OC Joe Brady on Monday. “It happened so quickly, like right [before] half, so you’re just — no adjustments, no adjustments, just the playcalls. If [backup QB Mitchell Trubisky] had to go, he was ready to go, but we knew Josh was gonna be ready to rock. He was good to go.”
“Yeah, day-to-day,” Brady said on Allen’s status. “Josh Allen’s going to do everything he can to get his body ready to go. You don’t start as many games as he has — I think he’s probably in the 130s or something like that — by not taking care of your body. Every week he’s taking hits, and it’s what makes him him. So I know he’s going to do whatever he’s got to do to be ready to go.”
“Nah,” Brady said on if Allen’s foot injury might change his playcalling strategy. “We have the mindset of if our guys are out there, they’re out there. We’ll be able to execute everything. Shoot, the second play [coming out of the] half, we did a move the pocket play with him. So no, it won’t impact any playcalling.
