Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator Joe Brady spoke to the media on Monday following the Bills 31-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Brady spoke on wide receiver Josh Palmer’s role in the Bills offense as he’s had a relatively limited snap count so far this season.

There might have been a play yesterday where Elijah Moore had the same play eight times, that’s eight plays where [Palmer]’s not on the field,” Brady said. “That’s not that Josh isn’t doing anything correctly, it’s just while we’re getting to those plays there’s certain guys on the field and some of the personnel groupings we feel are to our advantage.”

Buffalo’s offense features a smorgasbord of receivers, none of which are really stars, but all are players that can impact the game in a number of ways. Palmer is one of those guys.

“Josh is a pro’s pro,” Brady said. “He’s embodying what we’re doing, that we’re trying to win games, obviously did a great job on the second play of the game yesterday. I’ve had no issues with his work ethic, his approach, everybody’s still trying to figure it all out right now, we’re still early in the season. He’s one of those guys that I like where he’s at, I could name about 10 guys I’d love to get more involved.”

Palmer Having Success Despite Limited Role

Palmer signed a three year, $29 million contract with the Bills in the offseason after spending his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. So far as a Bill, Palmer has 10 receptions for 138 yards in four games played. His most productive game this season came in week one, when he caught five of his nine targets for 61 yards.

The beauty of an offense like Buffalo’s is that it doesn’t really need that one stud receiver like Ja’Marr Chase or Justin Jefferson to be successful. Josh Allen is such a dynamic passer that having three or four decent options is actually better than having one great option.

The Bills have 12 different players with a reception through four weeks, and five with 10+. Although Palmer’s 10 receptions seems relatively low, the player with the most, Keon Coleman, only has 17.

The two-headed monster of Allen and James Cook in the run game has delivered a huge portion of Buffalo’s offense so far, so the receivers have only needed to be secondary pieces within the offense.

Bills Off To Red Hot Start

After disappointing finishes to the last number of seasons, Buffalo already has it’s sight set on the playoffs in January as it’s off to a 4-0 start. The Bills are one of a couple of teams in the NFL that are in “Super Bowl or bust” mode this season, and they’re playing like it so far.

With that being said, it doesn’t matter for teams like Buffalo how they play in September or October, because the wins will come with a guy like Josh Allen manning the offense. This time of year is all about figuring out what they have so that as the season tumbles towards it’s culmination, they know exactly what their best lineup looks like for the playoffs.

That’s a lot of what we’re seeing with the Bills offense through four weeks as Allen tries to spread the ball around to all of his receivers.
