The Buffalo Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the last few years, yet have not been able to reach the Super Bowl.
Two teams that come to mind around the league that have dominated their competition but failed to reach the big game over the last few years are the Bills and the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens are just as good as Buffalo, but both teams continue to encounter issues when they enter January.
The Bills Can’t Find The Super Bowl
Baltimore has had a hard time getting past the Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs, while Buffalo can’t seem to get past the Chiefs.
In four of the last five postseasons, the Bills have fallen to Kansas City three times on the road and once at home.
Since 2019, Kansas City has played in five Super Bowls, winning three, and has become one of the best dynasties in all of sports, not just the NFL.
One of the most iconic dynasties in sports history is the Chicago Bulls of the 1990s.
Star guard Michael Jordan led the Bulls to six NBA Championships during the 1990s, all of which came in three-peat form.
Since the Bulls were so dominant, it cost other teams and star players the opportunity to make the NBA Finals or win one.
One player from the 1990s NBA who is often criticized for not winning a ring is Charles Barkley, a former forward for the Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers, and Houston Rockets.
Barkley is an 11-time All-Star and a Hall of Famer, but he could never win the NBA Finals because in 1993, the Suns lost to the Bulls.
Sports always have great players, and teams often get blocked by other excellent teams and players. Currently, the Bills are facing this issue against the Chiefs.
Frank Schwab Compares Buffalo To Charles Barkley
Anytime it seems like Buffalo is ready to reach the Super Bowl, Kansas City takes them down. Frank Schwab from Yahoo Sports compared the Chiefs to the Bulls and Jordan, and likened the Bills to Barkley.
“The Kansas City Chiefs are the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls, making so many Super Bowls that it’s hard for anyone else to get a piece of the action,” Schwab wrote. “That makes the Buffalo Bills the Charles Barkley of this era. Maybe that makes the Baltimore Ravens the modern day Patrick Ewing. Or they can call dibs on John Stockton and Karl Malone. Maybe Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp.”
“It’s impossible to talk about the Josh Allen Bills (or the Lamar Jackson Ravens, which we’ll get to later in the countdown) without talking about the Chiefs. This era of Bills football has been tremendous,” Schwab stated. “The franchise didn’t win one playoff game from the end of the 1995 season to the 2020 season, Josh Allen’s third year with the team. They went 17 seasons without making the playoffs at all. Now the Bills are playoff regulars. They’ve won five AFC East titles in a row after going 24 seasons without winning one. Allen won NFL MVP last season, becoming the first Bills quarterback to ever win the award. It has been a glorious stretch for Buffalo.”
The Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen, has some time to try to win a Super Bowl, but with the star quarterback turning 30 next year, they don’t have as much time as they would like.
It will be interesting to see how Buffalo performs in this postseason and whether they can overcome Kansas City.
