Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman has sent a clear message to Josh Allen amid his ongoing journey in search of his first Super Bowl.
Allen has made the Bills a perennial Super Bowl contender, but the team hasn’t been able to get over the hump. With the pressure only getting bigger after each passing season, and ahead of training camp and the season, Aikman sent a message to Allen.
“They bring in Joe Brady, and now the expectations are that he’s going to be the guy to get them over the hump and get them into the Super Bowl,” Aikman said on Get Up. “I understand, as Josh, what he might be feeling right now going into this. My advice, if I had any for him, would be to just try to not put so much on his shoulders, just be him.”
Aikman believes Allen is to just play his game and not put too much pressure on himself. The Bills’ star quarterback has often been criticzed by trying to do too much, which leads to sacks or turnovers, so Aikman is hopeful he will learn from it.
Allen is a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time NFL MVP. Aikman, meanwhile, is a three-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Aikman Believes Allen is Perfect for Bills
Although Aikman gave Allen some advice, he also credited the quarterback.
Aikman believes what Allen has done is stellar, and he thinks he and Buffalo are a perfect match for each other.
“To watch what (Allen’s) been able to do in the NFL has been remarkable,” Aikman added. “He was the perfect guy for that city, and they’re lucky to have him.”
Allen has embraced the city of Buffalo, which has helped him become an even bigger star in the city.
“I would say it’s eerily similar to how I was born and raised,” Allen said last September about Buffalo. “Smaller communities that care for each other, that look out for each other. The people make the place and I truly believe that. I love having four seasons, I know our summer and fall are elite here and winter can be a little brutal at times, but it’s a special place on top of that I may be the biggest wing connoisseur in this building so it works out.”
The Bills selected Allen seventh overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Joe Brady Looking to Bring Best Out of Allen
Buffalo hired Joe Brady as its new head coach after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Brady said the goal is to bring the best out of Allen and the offense as the head coach, and he’s confident he can do that.
“He is the leader of this organization, and the weight that he has on his shoulders is something that I can’t even imagine,” Brady said. “… Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL, and I have to grow. Part of me growing is that it’s going to allow him to be a better version of himself. I’m so excited to be able to continue this journey with him. I have so much love for that man right here, and all I want is for him to get everything that he deserves. I’m going to do everything I can to get him what he deserves.”
Buffalo will have its OTAs on May 18–19, May 21, May 26–28, and June 1–4.
