Jordan Addison Just Gave Bears Fans a Reason to Dream

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison recently posted a photo on Instagram wearing a jersey of former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte. The post quickly caught the attention of Chicago’s franchise quarterback, Caleb Williams, who reshared Addison’s photo on his own Instagram story.

On the surface, it doesn’t really mean much. But given the recent circumstances around Addison and Minnesota this offseason, the timing is what made it interesting.

Cause on the field, Addison has averaged roughly 885 receiving yards per season and has scored 22 touchdowns in his first 46 career games. However, his time in Minnesota hasn’t been without controversy.

The 24 year old is entering the final year of his contract and was recently suspended for three games in 2025 following a DUI related incident and has had several other off field situations that have occasionally frustrated the organization. Earlier this year, he was briefly arrested for trespassing at a Florida casino before the charge was later dropped. Those issues have complicated Minnesota’s long term decision making about the former first round pick.

The Chicago Bears, meanwhile, recently traded wide receiver DJ Moore and a fifth round selection to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2026 second round pick.

However, between Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Colston Loveland, and Jahdae Walker, the Bears don’t exactly lack receiving depth.

Chicago also recently added veteran receiver Kalif Raymond on a one year, $5.1 million deal, giving Ben Johnson a familiar face from his days in Detroit and giving the Bears even more WR depth.

And even further, the Bears are already building around a young offensive core that will eventually need some pretty massive contracts soon. Franchise quarterback Caleb Williams will be in line for a massive extension if his development continues, while wide receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III are also key long term pieces who could be due sizable deals down the line. Adding Addison to that mix would likely create another looming contract situation.

Finally, the Minnesota Vikings would be very hesitant to trade Addison to a division rival in the Bears. In fact, they would likely be willing to expect a lesser offer from someone outside the division.

So because of the Bears depth, the financial commitments that could come later, and the divisional aspect, a move for Jordan Addison would be complicated, even if the talent is undeniable.

Why Bears fans are paying attention

For Chicago Bears fans, the social media moment may (and more than likely will) ultimately prove to be nothing more than offseason entertainment.

Still, seeing a talented receiver from a division rival wearing a Bears jersey and getting a reaction from the team’s franchise quarterback was enough to ignite some imagination.

In reality, the interaction likely had a much simpler explanation… Jordan Addison and Caleb Williams were teammates at USC during the 2022 season, which likely explains why Williams reshared the post in the first place.

Even so, a trade between NFC North rivals would be difficult (and honestly just not smart whatsoever) to pull off and Chicago’s current depth at wide receiver along with the future contracts looming makes the idea even less likely.
