The Cleveland Browns have a Pro Bowl quarterback.
Due to injuries and Drake Maye being in the Super Bowl, Shedeur Sanders was named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate. Many fans and analysts were annoyed that Sanders got into the Pro Bowl, as he only started a handful of games and had lackluster stats.
Yet, Sanders’ father, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, made his feelings clear on his son making the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.
“My son did something that I didn’t do,” said Sanders on the We Got Time Today podcast. “He made the Pro Bowl in his first year. I made him in my third year. But most people don’t know that the major percentage is from the coaches and the players, their selection. Then the fans get a smaller percentage of votes. It’s not just the fan thing.”
As Coach Prime noted, Sanders made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, which was something many people can’t do. Meanwhile, Sanders also said his son deserves the nod, despite plenty of backlash.
Sanders finished the year throwing for 1,400 for 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Browns New HC Sends a Message to Sanders
Cleveland hired Todd Monken to be their new head coach, and he sent a clear message to Sanders.
Sanders finished the year as the Browns’ starting quarterback, but his future at quarterback for Cleveland is up in the air.
Yet, ahead of his introduction, Monken was seen at the Browns facility and sent a message to Sanders.
“We tried to draft your ass last year for God’s sake,” Monken said to Sanders. “It’s all worked out. You remember that, right? Someday we’ll get a chance to talk about that.”
If Monken has high praise for Sanders, it could be good news for his future as the Browns’ starting quarterback.
Cleveland is expected to make a move for a quarterback this offseason, whether it’s through the draft, free agency, or trade. But Monken wanting Sanders last year in Baltimore could be a good sign for Sanders’ future as the Browns’ starting quarterback in 2026 and beyond.
Cleveland is Expected to Make a Move at QB
The Browns have Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel all under contract for next season. Yet, Cleveland is widely expected to add a quarterback to potentially be their franchise guy.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler predicted the Browns would be aggressive this offseason, trying to land a quarterback.
“I’m gonna say it’s somebody different in there, whether it’s a Malik Willis in free agency or take a swing on a Ty Simpson from Alabama in the draft, who some teams really like,” Fowler said on 92.3 The Fan. “I could see a different swing. I go back to the draft last year when they made the Travis Hunter trade. The idea was to load up on a draft that was supposed to be better at quarterback, (but) it doesn’t seem to be.
“You do the homework and maybe there is someone in the draft you love you can get. You have two first-round picks. There isn’t a lot in free agency, but if you like Malik Willis, and I know the Browns have done their homework on him, maybe it’s an option.”
