Ex-Broncos QB Russell Wilson Sends Message Ahead of Free Agency

Russell Wilson is back in motivational mode, and for Denver Broncos fans, the timing is hard to ignore.

Wilson posted a new Instagram video telling supporters they inspire him, encouraging fans to keep sending Cameo requests, and repeating a simple mantra: believe today can be your best day.

The clip itself isn’t a football statement. But it’s landing in the middle of a quarterback offseason where Wilson’s future is unsettled, and where Denver is finally nearing the end of the financial fallout from the most infamous trade-and-extension swing in franchise history.

Russell Wilson’s post sounded like a reset button

In the video, Wilson thanks fans for shout-outs and milestone messages — birthdays, anniversaries and personal inspiration — and says the requests motivate him, too. He framed the Cameo push as something “for the kids” and for anybody who needs “a little love.”

Then came the closer: keep the spirit, keep the life, and keep believing.

That’s a familiar Wilson public persona, but it’s also notable because he’s not posting as a locked-in starter coming off a stable season. He’s posting as a veteran quarterback who may need to find his next role quickly.

Wilson has already addressed retirement talk

On January 5, 2026, CBS Sports reported Wilson said he is not considering retirement after a season that included being benched and later demoted to third string with the Giants, adding that he plans to play in 2026 with a new team. It came tightly within a newscycle where Wilson also drew attention for admitting an injury that the Giants did not previously disclose.

From there, the calendar gets real. The NFL’s own operations site lists March 11 as the start of the 2026 league year and the opening of the free agency signing period.

So even a feel-good Instagram message ends up reading like a public “I’m still in it” signal when the market is only weeks away from moving.

Why Broncos fans still care

Wilson is long gone from Denver, but the story never totally left town because of what it cost.

When the Broncos moved on, ESPN reported Denver would take an $85 million dead-money hit over the next two seasons after releasing Wilson, after previously signing him to a five-year, $242.6 million deal.

That’s why 2026 matters to the Broncos angle: the contract hangover has been a constant backdrop, and Wilson’s name still shows up anytime fans talk about roster-building constraints and cap math.

Yahoo Sports has also noted that while Wilson still counted against Denver’s cap in 2025, he would be completely off the books in 2026.

Denver’s QB room has moved on, fully

On the field, the Broncos are firmly in a different era at quarterback.

Denver’s depth chart lists Bo Nix at QB1, with Jarrett Stidham as the primary backup. Sam Ehlinger has also recently made the roster. Nix is currently driving the No. 1-seeded Broncos on a playoff run.

That reality is what makes Wilson’s latest “belief” message feel like a clean line between timelines: Wilson trying to write his next chapter, and Denver focused on building around its current one.

None of it means Wilson is returning to Denver. It does mean the Wilson conversation is still relevant here, because the Broncos are approaching the moment where the last traces of the deal finally stop shaping the roster.

And as Wilson’s Instagram reminded everyone this week, he still plans to keep going.
