The Detroit Lions are still on a high after their win over the Baltimore Ravens during Monday Night Football on September 22, and there’s going to be no coming down from that feeling for a long time. The Detroit Lions closed out the game with a 38-30 victory on the road, and it was something that many in the NFL just didn’t think they could do.
The Detroit Lions players were in top form on the field, from quarterback Jared Goff to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and the defense was especially exceptional. The defense even sacked Baltimore Ravens MVP-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson seven times.
After the game, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was in good spirits and talked about the victory. He said some truths about the Lions and commented about how hard they work and their real-life chemistry. He also said that there’s nothing fake about this team and how they play under the bright lights.
Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell on the Win Over the Ravens
Speaking with the press after the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell talked about defensive end Aidan Hutchinson’s late forced fumble. It was a great moment for the team’s defense.
“Our hardest workers are our best players. It’s not lip service; it’s not fake. Our best players are our hardest workers,” he told reporters. “Go out and watch them practice. It’s like that every day. So, that’s the standard. That’s the standard.”
He added, “If you’re not up to that standard with the effort matching, what our best players do, then you’re not going to be around here very long. That makes the rest of your guys just fall in line, anybody that comes in or we acquire, the young guys, all of it, and that’s the way we play. That’s what we do.”
Goff also talked about the big win. He praised the Ravens while also giving respect to the Detroit Lions.
“They are so dang good. I don’t know what Lamar (Jackson)’s record is against NFC teams (24-3 after Monday),” Goff told the press. “I think he’s lost twice. They are so dang good, and he’s so dang good, and their defense is always good.”
He added, “That’s why they are hard to beat, and yes, they have given me trouble a few times, and I was able to get one tonight.”
A Huge Game for David Montgomery
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery had a huge game and was named the “Player of the Game” after the contest, and the Detroit Lions also announced that he had a career high on the ground. By the end of the game, Montgomery had 12 carries, 151 rush yards and two touchdowns. Who can forget his 72-yard run, too? Congratulations are certainly in order for Montgomery.
Following the matchup, Montgomery talked with reporters about his crying touchdown celebration and said the he has “an alter self. I see myself as the Joker, and in one of his movies, he was fake crying, and he started to laugh after he was crying.”
Let’s hope the Lions can repeat this success on Sunday, September 28, against the Cleveland Browns.
