Even though the Green Bay Packers decided to sign head coach Matt LaFleur to a new contract early on this offseason, they have endured quite a bit of turnover when it comes to their coaching staff so far. Much of that is due to losing defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to the Miami Dolphins‘ head coach gig, but LaFleur appears to be revamping his staff from top to bottom.

While many of the changes have been made on the defensive side of the ball, LaFleur is also bringing some new offensive coaches to town. Case in point, after losing wide receiver coach Ryan Mahaffey to the Philadelphia Eagles, LaFleur moved quickly to hire Penn State Nittany Lions assistant Noah Pauley to join his staff.

For the third straight year, the Packers finished as the No. 7 seed in the NFC, and they failed to advance out of the wild-card round for the second season in a row. While injuries certainly did not help Green Bay, LaFleur seems to know that things need to change when it comes to his coaching staff if he wants to see improved results moving forward.

One change he was forced into making involved finding a new defensive coordinator, but he quickly hired former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon to replace Hafley. LaFleur and Gannon have since begun building out the defensive side of the coaching staff, but changes are also being made on the offensive side of the staff, too.

Reports indicate that the Packers and Mahaffey mutually agreed to part ways, which led to LaFleur firing up a search for a new wide receivers coach. With Mahaffey headed to Philadelphia, the team quickly pivoted and found his replacement in Pauley, who has spent the past few years working as a wide receivers coach for Penn State and the Iowa State Cyclones at the college level.

“The Packers are parting ways with WRs coach Ryan Mahaffey and plan to hire Penn State WRs coach Noah Pauley as his replacement, per sources,” Jordan Schultz reported in a post on X. “Pauley spent the past three years as Matt Campbell’s WRs coach at Iowa State, working with Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel, and others, then followed Campbell to Penn State to take the same role. He has been on the radar of NFL teams for over a year – and now joins Matt LaFleur’s staff.”

Pauley will immediately serve in an important role for the Packers, as one of their offseason objectives is going to involve increasing the talent level of the players catching passes from Jordan Love. Green Bay has a plethora of wide receivers, but it doesn’t really have a guy who stands alone as the team’s No. 1 option.

Guys like Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden all figure to factor into the mix in 2026, and Pauley will now play a big role in overseeing their development. There’s a decent chance that the Packers will add another big-name target to this group, but regardless, it’s clear that Pauley’s work with receivers during his time in college caught Green Bay’s attention. Now, he will look to carry his success over to the pros in his role with the Packers.
