NFL Network reported head coach Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles have hired Ryan Mahaffey to partially replace Jeff Stoutland.

The Philadelphia Eagles surprisingly lost a key staff member in Jeff Stoutland on Wednesday night. But it didn’t take long for the Eagles to find a coach who will assume some of Stoutland’s responsibilities.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday morning the Eagles are hiring Ryan Mahaffey as run game coordinator and tight ends coach. Stoutland had possessed run game coordinator in his Philadelphia job title since 2018.

“The Eagles are filling out their offensive staff under OC Sean Mannion, hiring an ascending coach from the Packers: Philly is hiring Ryan Mahaffey as Run Game Coordinator and Tight Ends coach, per The Insiders,” wrote Rapoport on X.

“An impressive addition.”

Rapoport reported the Mahaffey hire roughly 15 hours after Stoutland announced he wouldn’t be returning to the Eagles for the 2026 season.

Stoutland sent a message to Eagles fans on X to announce his departure.

“Philadelphia, I’ve decided my time coaching with the Eagles has come to an end,” wrote Stoutland. “When I arrived here in 2013, I did not know what I was signing up for. I quickly learned what this city demands. But more importantly, what it gives back.

“The past 13 years have been the great privilege of my coaching career. I didn’t just work here, I become one of you.

“Stout out.”

During his 13 seasons with the Eagles, Stoutland worked under three different head coaches. He was on staff for three NFC championship titles and two Super Bowl victories.

Eagles Hiring Ryan Mahaffey to Coaching Staff: Report

There’s likely to be more fallout from the Stoutland exit in Philadelphia. But it helps that the Eagles quickly found a new run game coordinator in an ascending coach.

Mahaffey worked under new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion with the Green Bay Packers the past two seasons. Mahaffey joined the Green Bay staff as an offensive quality control coach in 2021.

He was also an assistant offensive line coach and wide receivers coach over the past four years.

Mahaffey began his coaching career at Northern Iowa as a tight ends coach. He experienced three different stints at Northern Iowa, the last of which he served as the program’s offensive coordinator from 2019-20.

He also coached at Notre Dame and Western Kentucky.

A Des Moines, Iowa native, Mahaffey played full back at Northern Iowa as well. He experienced a brief NFL playing career from 2011-12. Mahaffey appeared in five games for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2011 season.

Jeff Stoutland’s Controversial Eagles Exit: Report

ESPN’s Tim McManus reported the Eagles offered Stoutland an opportunity to stay on Mannion’s first coaching staff as OC. But according to McManus, Stoutland declined and doesn’t plan to coach in 2026.

The ESPN NFL insider added more details about Stoutland’s exit that don’t paint Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni in a very positive light.

“With the offense stagnant, head coach Nick Sirianni took on a more active role over the latter part of the season. He and then-offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo began incorporating different run designs in an effort to kick start the operation,” wrote McManus.

“Stoutland was not consulted about the changes to what he felt was an appropriate degree, a league source said, to the point where he no longer desired the title of run game coordinator because he felt it no longer fit his job description.”

With the amount of offensive line and running game success the Eagles experienced in Stoutland’s 13 seasons, Sirianni is likely to face criticism for favoring Kevin Patullo over Stoutland.

The Eagles running game bouncing back under Mahaffey could be essential for Sirianni getting back into the fan’s good graces.

Mahaffey has offensive line coaching experience, which should help replace Stoutland as well. However, the Eagles also need to find a new offensive line coach.
