Just before the full 2026 NFL schedule release, the Green Bay Packers received a unique scheduling announcement involving the Los Angeles Rams.

Green Bay will travel to Los Angeles on Nov. 25 in a game that officially kicks off the NFL’s Thanksgiving week slate. The matchup will also be streamed exclusively on Netflix, continuing the league’s expansion into major streaming platforms.

“We will have Wednesday football this season. Packers at Rams 11/25,” Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported the announcement on X.

The Packers’ official X account quickly joined in on the fun, posting, “Netflix and chill on Thanksgiving Eve.”

The matchup will be the Rams second appearance on Netflix during the 2026 season. Their first will be on Thursday, Sept. 10 against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia.

Packers May Not Have Gotten Their Ideal 2026 NFL Schedule Draw

Before the NFL revealed that she Packers would travel to face the Rams on Nov. 25, Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports outlined what would have been Green Bay’s ideal road schedule for the 2026 season.

According to DeArdo, the Packers’ biggest scheduling wish would have been to receive a favorable setup for several potentially difficult road trips.

“Green Bay has an interesting list of road opponents from a weather standpoint,” DeArdo wrote. “Ideally, the Packers would travel to New England, Chicago and New York early in the season and travel to Tampa Bay later in the year. Green Bay would also probably prefer to avoid the Rams in primetime, given the West Coast travel.”

That final point proved especially relevant.

Not only will the Packers head to Los Angeles late in the season, but the game will be played in one of the NFL’s newest standalone television windows in prime time, on the eve of a holiday.

The hope now for Green Bay is they get a home matchup the following week.

NFL Continues Expanding Its Calendar as Packers Make Rare Wednesday Appearance

The unusual scheduling decision is part of the NFL’s broader effort to create more exclusive broadcast windows across nearly the entire week.

What was once a league centered almost entirely around Sunday has evolved into a year-round media juggernaut. The NFL now regularly features games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with special holiday matchups adding even more national showcases.

By placing the Packers and Rams on Wednesday, the league is effectively positioning itself to air games on every day of the week except Tuesday during the 2026 season.

According to Wes Hodkiewicz, the game will mark just the second Wednesday game in franchise history.

The first took place on Sept. 28, 1938, when the Packers faced the Chicago Cardinals in Buffalo.

Nearly 90 years later, Green Bay will once again take the field on a Wednesday, adding a rare historical footnote to what is already one of the most anticipated games on the 2026 schedule.
