The Green Bay Packers are losing one of their top wide receivers in free agency, as Romeo Doubs has reportedly agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Doubs is signing a four-year, $68 million contract with the Patriots.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that it came down to the Patriots and Commanders for Doubs.

“Romeo Doubs entertained tangible interest from the #Commanders and it was very close in the end, but he chooses NE,” Schultz posted on X.

Doubs, 25, spent the first four seasons of his career in Green Bay after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada. He is coming off a 2025 season in which he led the Packers with 55 receptions for 724 yards while tying for the team lead with six touchdown catches.

His departure marks another notable change to Green Bay’s wide receiver room as the team continues reshaping its roster heading into the 2026 season.

Packers Continue Losing Key Free Agents Early in Offseason

The Packers had a large group of unrestricted free agents ready to hit the market once free agency began, and Doubs is just one of several players already departing Green Bay.

• Kingsley Enagbare (DE): Signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the New York Jets.
Malik Willis (QB): Signed a three-year, $67.5 million deal with the Miami Dolphins.
• Quay Walker (LB): Signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Rashan Gary (DE): Traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Elgton Jenkins (OL): Released by the team.
• Romeo Doubs (WR): Left in free agency for Patriots.
Nate Hobbs (CB): Released with a post-June 1 designation.
Rasheed Walker (T): Unsigned/Departing.
Colby Wooden (DT): Traded to the Indianapolis Colts for linebacker Zaire Franklin.

Fortunately for Green Bay, the loss of Doubs may not sting as much as it might have a year ago thanks to the team’s depth at wide receiver.

The Packers still have several young pass catchers in the room, including Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. That group gives Green Bay plenty of options heading into the 2026 season as the offense continues to evolve.

Still, Doubs was a valuable part of the Packers’ offense during his four seasons with the franchise. Over that span, he recorded 202 receptions for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 12 yards per catch.

He also set career highs in several key categories during the 2025 season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

“Doubs finished with the 19th-most receiving EPA (+27.6) and tied for the 2nd-most touchdowns from an isolated alignment (4) among wide receivers.”

Patriots Add Key Weapon for Quarterback Drake Maye

It’s clear the Patriots needed to add help at wide receiver heading into the 2026 season despite their Super Bowl run this past year.

Stefon Diggs led the team with 102 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season. However, his release created a major void in both production and veteran leadership within the offense.

Whether New England continues adding wide receivers in free agency remains to be seen. The Patriots could still look to the NFL Draft to further strengthen their passing attack.

If additional moves aren’t made, Doubs could quickly emerge as quarterback Drake Maye’s top receiving target. During his time in Green Bay, Doubs typically served as a WR2 option within the Packers’ offense.
