For the second time this week, the Green Bay Packers are adding a defensive tackle to their 53-man roster to help with the loss of starter Devonte Wyatt.
According to the NFL’s official transaction wire, the Packers officially placed Wyatt on the injured reserve list on Friday, December 5, having confirmed that the ankle injury that he sustained in Week 13’s win over the Detroit Lions is a season-ending issue.
To replace him on the 53-man roster, though, the Packers also claimed former Dallas Cowboys draft pick Quinton Bohanna off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
Bohanna — a 2021 sixth-rounder — made 10 starts and appeared in 27 games for the Cowboys over his first two seasons in the league, but he fell out of favor during his third training camp with the team and has struggled to find a consistent role since. While he did appear in five games for the Seahawks this season, he played just 34 total snaps.
The Packers have now added multiple depth players to their defensive tackle rotation in the days since finding out that Wyatt’s ankle would end his promising season. They also swiped third-year Jordon Riley off the New York Giants‘ practice squad on December 3.
The Packers (8-3-1) will host the Bears (9-3) at Lambeau Field for the first of their two regular-season matchups in Week 14 at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 7.
Packers Could Add More DL Help Before Bears Game
The additions of Riley and Bohanna will help the Packers fortify their defensive interior with more depth before facing the Bears and their second-ranked rushing offense, but they may not be done gathering their reinforcements — based on their injury report.
The Packers listed defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. — who is still on injured reserve — as questionable to play against the Bears in Week 14 after he participated in every practice this week in a limited capacity. While the Packers would still need to activate Cox to the active roster to play him, the window to do so is open until 4 p.m. ET on December 6.
At the very least, the Packers will have back defensive lineman Karl Brooks, who missed Week 13’s win over the Lions with an ankle injury. The team cleared him on the injury report after he returned to full participation for December 5’s final weekly walkthrough.
Unfortunately, the Packers have also ruled out defensive end Lukas Van Ness yet again as he continues to battle with a foot injury. He has played six snaps since October 12.
Will Micah Parsons Play Inside More Without Wyatt?
The Packers could experiment with a few different rotations over the next few games as they try to figure out how exactly they are going to replace Wyatt’s value on the inside.
Could that mean more snaps for Micah Parsons on the interior in the weeks ahead?
Parsons has looked every bit an All-Pro in 2025 after the Packers gave up two first-round picks and veteran Kenny Clark to acquire him from the Cowboys in August. He has 12.5 sacks (third-most in the NFL) to go along with 67 pressures and 41 hurries in his first 12 games and has delivered for them multiple times with the game on the line.
One of the reasons the Packers have touted for why they felt so strongly about Parsons, though, is his ability to line up in multiple spots. Parsons can create havoc as an interior blitzer almost as effectively as he can when rushing off the edge. While the Packers may feel that isn’t a winning strategy against the Bears — who tout one of the best interior offensive lines in the league — it could serve them better in later-season matchups.
