Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs moved on to sign a free agency contract with the New England Patriots this offseason. But he won’t be quite done with Green Bay this fall.
The Packers will visit Doubs and the Patriots in Foxboro during the 2026 NFL season.
The NFL media often bills those kinds of meetings as “revenge games” across the league nowadays. But the receiver made it clear to reporters this week that he has no reason to seek “revenge” against the Packers.
“Green Bay took care of me. You know, it wouldn’t be a reason for me to have that type of pressure against them, because again, my career started there,” Doubs said, via SI on Patriots’ Ethan Hurwitz. “They taught me the foundation of football, how football works, situational football.
“Just understanding complimentary football, how teams can be, just the overall game in general. They showed me the ropes in that area. And again, I do know that we played them this year, but … it’s not even like that.”
Doubs spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Packers. In 59 games, the wideout posted 202 receptions, 2,424 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.
The Packers will find out when they visit Foxboro this week. The NFL will announce its full 2026 regular season schedule Thursday night.
Romeo Doubs Doesn’t See Packers Matchup as Revenge Game
Revenge game narratives have become quite popular among NFL fans and media in recent years. But Doubs did nothing to feed into his potential revenge matchup versus the Packers.
Green Bay didn’t re-sign Doubs before NFL free agency this offseason. Instead, Doubs inked a 4-year, $68 million deal with the Patriots.
But there doesn’t appear to be any hard feelings on either side. Doubs was a significant contributor for Green bay during his four years. The Packers, though, are moving forward with their young collection of talent at receiver.
In New England, Doubs will now have the opportunity to be a clear-cut WR1 or WR2, depending on whether the Patriots close the deal on an A.J. Brown trade.
Doubs is coming off arguably the best statistical season of his career in 2025. He registered 55 catches for a career-best 724 receiving yards. Doubs averaged a career-high 13.2 yards per catch with six touchdowns.
The wideout had at least 600 receiving yards each of the past three seasons.
How Packers Replace Doubs in 2026 NFL Season
Doubs emerged as a Green Bay starter after the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Since then, though, the Packers have picked three receivers on Days 1 or 2 of the NFL Draft. In 2025 alone, they grabbed Matthew Golden at No. 23 overall and Savion Williams in the third round.
With their arrival, along with Jayden Reed, Doubs became expendable. Especially with the return of a healthy Christian Watson as well. The Packers chose Watson in the second round — roughly 100 picks before Doubs in the same draft class.
Watson, Reed, Golden and Williams could be Green Bay’s top four wideouts when the team visits the Patriots this fall.
The Packers also added veteran Skyy Moore in NFL free agency. Additionally, the team has Jakobie Keeney-James, Will Sheppard, Isaiah Neyor and J. Michael Sturdivant at receiver on the offseason roster.
