The Houston Texans know they need more from C.J. Stroud. However, the Texans also know that the best way to get that is by better supporting their franchise quarterback, and landing Kadyn Proctor in the 2026 draft would be a fine way to accomplish that.

It appears the Texans at least have a sense that that may be the case.

The Texans have three returning starters and several others with starting experience on their offensive line. Proctor would not have that, but he would nonetheless be a significant addition.

“Alabama consensus All-American offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor is scheduled to take a top 30 visit with the Texans, per a league source,” KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson wrote on March 6. “Proctor, 20, is a massive blocking presence at 6-foot-7, 352 pounds.

“His experience at Alabama and in the ultra-competitive SEC prepared him for the NFL.”

Proctor spoke candidly about his weight at the combine, noting how he is working to keep it in control as he advances in his career.

“I’ve told them that I’m in the 350s,” Proctor said in February. “Anything under 355, right now, that feels really good to me. That’s where I’ve been in the mid-season to through last season. Obviously, being 365 and 370 isn’t a good weight for me to play at. So. I’ve I figured that, understood that. But if any team gives me a weight, then I can go down and achieve that.”

Proctor to the Texans makes even more sense after Houston traded two offensive linemen this week, one starter in Tytus Howard and another veteran with starting experience in Juice Scruggs. Two other starters–Ed Ingram and Trent Brown were free agents.

Ingram’s future remains uncertain, but the Texans re-signed Brown.

That could allow them to bring Proctor in and let him learn at first. He could quickly ascend, though, just like 2025 second-round pick Aireontae Ersery.

The Texans signed Cam Robinson in free agency during the 2025 offseason, but traded up to draft Ersery. He eventually earned the starting left tackle job. Houston then traded Robinson to the Cleveland Browns, where they sent Howard this offseason, during the season.

Kadyn Proctor a ‘Mass of Humanity

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein’s pre-draft profile on Proctor highlighted his size, but also several other traits that could appeal to the Texans ahead of the draft. Zierlein called Proctor a “mass of humanity with rare size and length at his command.”

His addition would add power to the Texans’ offensive line.

That does not mean his game is without warts, as Zierlein explained, while projecting him to become a quality starter within his first few seasons in the league.

“He’s capable as a move blocker but shines when rolling downhill as a bona-fide people mover with bulldozing power. However, slants and quick first steps beat him to the spot in the run game. When set and centered, Proctor is a roadblock to speed-to-power charges. He has a stout anchor and strong hands to stall the rush in its track,” Zierlein wrote.

“Struggles to mirror athletes in space and lacks the range to protect deeper pocket drops against speed. Inconsistency in pass protection hasn’t helped his draft standing, but he still has the potential to become a good right tackle or very good guard.”

The Texans could use help at both spots.

There is a chance Proctor is long gone before the Texans go on the board with the 28th overall pick in the draft. However, they are clearly willing to move around when need be.
