Indianapolis Colts injury-plagued cornerback JuJu Brents has yet to play a full season in the NFL. The corner played nine games in his rookie season and two in his second season.

In the time he has played, Brents has totaled 50 tackles and six pass breakups for the Colts.

Having difficulty staying on the field, Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder believes Brents could benefit from a change of scenery away from his hometown of Indy.

“JuJu Brents was an intriguing cornerback prospect in the 2023 draft class. He has rare size and length for a corner at nearly 6’3″ and 198 pounds with 34-inch arms… All of that led the Indianapolis Colts to use a second-round pick on him, which seemed like the perfect fit for the Indianapolis native. However, he’s battled injuries over the last two years, missing 23 games, and might have lost his starting spot moving forward,” Holder wrote.

“Granted, Brents still has a chance to earn a starting job during training camp, since the spot opposite [Charvarius] Ward is expected to be up for grabs. But the 25-year-old is facing an uphill battle to beat out both [Jaylon] Jones and [Justin] Walley, and he might have a better opportunity to get playing time elsewhere.”

Ward signed a three-year deal with Indianapolis this offseason, while drafting Walley in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Colts brought in Ward to be the starting cornerback in Indy. After him, it is an open battle for the second spot.

Holder points to third-year CB Jones being an option for the second spot due to his ability to stay on the field. Jones has played in all 34 games of his career so far.

Third-round selection Walley has been taking snaps with the first team early on during training camp, earning praise from head coach Shane Steichen and cornerback Ward.

Indianapolis also has Kenny Moore who could fill the second cornerback spot, but it seems unlikely as he plays as a nickel corner.

The team also Corey Ballantine and Samuel Womack who could also compete to be the starting corner opposite Ward.

With training camp starting for the Indianapolis Colts, the fight for the CB2 spot has begun.

JuJu Brents joined “The Colts Show” and talked about the competition among his teammates.

“I think you got to have competition,” Brents said on the show. “It’s going to make all of us better. It’s a healthy competition. When the smoke clears, we just want to make sure we got the best guys out there. It’s going to be good for all of us.”

The Colts will get to see their first action of the new secondary room on Aug. 7th when they play the Baltimore Ravens.
