The Jaguars cut ties with their secondary coach

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ season came to an end following a 27-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Jaguars held a four-point lead with four minutes remaining in the game, but the defense failed to contain the Bills’ offense as they allowed a touchdown with one minute left. Without any timeouts, Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars were tasked with driving down the field to tie or take the lead. Unfortunately, Lawrence threw his second interception of the game which ended the Jaguars’ season.

Following the season, head coach Liam Coen spoke with the media about the team’s potential following their 13-win season. He said, “That was the message to the team on Monday. I was extremely proud of a lot of things that we were able to accomplish. Very proud of their response to adversity. Now the real work is here, where we have to go and reload it. We’re not going to just stand here and say, ‘Man, we’re just going to redo it all with all the same I got us 13 wins.’”

Additionally, Coen said “We got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. So clearly, it was not good enough for the full end of the season standard.” After the season, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Jaguars are moving on from secondary coach Ron Milus. He joined the Jaguars coaching staff prior to the 2025 season. The reason for his dismissal has not been reported. He was a part of a defensive coaching staff that led the Jaguars to a top-10 defense in points allowed per game.

Milus had extensive experience working with secondaries in the NFL, including serving from 2013 to 2020 as the Chargers secondary coach. Prior to joining Liam Coen’s staff, Milus served for three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

Additionally, the Jaguars may lose another coach this offseason as defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile has an interview scheduled with the Miami Dolphins for their head coaching job. Campanile had previously been a linebackers coach with the Dolphins in 2023. On the offensive side, Jacksonville could potentially lose their offensive coordinator Grant Udinski as he interviewed for a head coaching job with the Browns.

Coen’s Offseason Outlook

When asked about potentially losing his coordinators to head coaching jobs, head coach Liam Coen said, “Anytime you have success, you’re going to have people come and call and knock on the door. And those guys [Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile] have earned some of those interviews and opportunities. Whether those happen this year or down the line, I think both of those guys are future head coaches at some point, and so that just comes along with the territory.” He ultimately called the situation “bittersweet.”

Jaguars fans will now hope the team manages to retain their promising coordinators and focus on building off this promising season. Jacksonville ended the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, but ultimately had their year come to an abrupt end. On the topic of sustaining that momentum, Coen said, “I’ve got to look at what those, I guess you could call it bullet points would be to get that over the hump. I think that we had a lot of great energy towards the end of the season.”
